Patient Exams
Review and interpret the medical, surgical, family, and social history of patients.
Perform appropriate medical screening procedures for male and female patient examinations. This includes speculum examination, bimanual examination obtaining of materials for Sexual Transmitted Disease (STD) investigation, cytological smears (and other specimens as indicated), and other types of more specialized screening procedures as may be indicated by PPMT's health care center medical policy.
Examine patients for proper use of contraceptives. For female patients that includes insertion of the diaphragm, cervical cap, or presence of intrauterine system (IUS).
Patient Diagnostics and Treatment
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients per PPMT MS&Gs.
Prescribe all Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved methods of birth control. This includes, but is not limited to: diaphragm and cervical cap fitting, IUS insertions and removals, Implanon insertions and removals, and dispensing contraceptive supplies and medications.
Interpret laboratory data and order appropriate additional laboratory investigations as indicated.
Provide patient referrals as needed.
Refer patients with abnormal conditions or other medical problems found on the examination to the supervising physician, when not covered by standing orders.
Prescribe and administer medication abortion per license.
Prescribe emergency contraception.
Interpret prepared instructions to patients and provide clarification and reinforcement of physician instructions for patients.
Education
Provide education on all FDA-approved birth control methods to patients and handle patient questions and problems relating to these methods in a factual, unbiased manner.
Provide medically accurate education and counsel on abortion in a factual, unbiased manner.

Works within an interdisciplinary outpatient team to provide strengths-based, holistic, and compassionate care.
Conducts comprehensive assessments consistent with ASAM criteria for individuals seeking substance use treatment.
Work with the individual and BH&RS Care Manager to facilitate transfers to higher levels of care.
Offers individual counseling, group counseling, and family interventions to members of the community seeking support for substance use.
Contributes to the wellness and effectiveness of the BH&RS team through positive communication, ownership, and offering one's support, strengths, and perspectives in a respectful and meaningful way.
Works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals through timely and respectful communication about patient care and contributions to shared treatment plans.
Identify clients who may be at risk for suicide and conduct assessments or conduct warm handoffs to the appropriate provider or facility.
May serve has a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) to the RBHC medical team to screen, provide brief intervention, and refer to treatment for substance use as needed.
Tracks and schedules patients and documents care within the timeframe specified by RBHC policy using the appropriate scheduling program and electronic medical record.
Educates clients and community about substance use using evidence-based approaches, the value of harm reduction, and the prevalence and importance of recognizing co-occurring substance use and mental health needs.
