1883

La Conner, Former courthouse site, Built 1883

LaConner was for a time the leading town, but growth brought changes in 1883.

1886

In 1886, Mortimer Cook opened the first shingle mill near present day Sedro-Woolley.

1889

With new communities came the demand for roads and the railroad, which came to Sedro-Woolley in 1889 from Fairhaven up on Bellingham Bay.

1890

On June 27, 1890 the first general election was held and the City’s first Mayor Mr.

1891

The Great Northern Railway finished construction of their rail line through Mount Vernon in 1891.

1894

By 1894, Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley had their first telephones.

Municipal water supply developed in 1902;

Many of its roads were graveled, though the Pacific Highway built by the Federal Government in 1915 had a "hard-surfaced" road.

Other bulb growers joined them after 1945.

Skagit Valley Hospital opened its medical and surgical facilities in 1958.

In 1960 the City’s first Comprehensive Plan was created and adopted.
