Skagit Valley Hospital - Emergency Room company history timeline

1870

Jasper Gates and Joseph Dwelley first settled on the banks of the Skagit River, where the City of Mount Vernon now lies, in 1870.

1876

In 1876 the log jams were removed permitting river travel to the towns that had grown upriver from Mount Vernon.

1877

In 1877 Harrison Clotheir purchased five acres (although some sources state it was 10 acres) from Jasper Gates along the riverfront for $100.00.

1890

On June 27, 1890 the first general election was held and the City’s first Mayor Mr.

1891

The Great Northern Railway finished construction of their rail line through Mount Vernon in 1891.

1902

Municipal water supply developed in 1902;

1958

Skagit Valley Hospital opened its medical and surgical facilities in 1958.

In 1958 a new hospital was built on the current campus.

Skagit Valley Hospital was founded in 1958.

1960

In 1960 the City’s first Comprehensive Plan was created and adopted.

1986

2007

In June 2007, the hospital opened a 220,000 square foot expansion, at a cost of $95 million.

2010

On July 1, 2010, Skagit Valley Hospital acquired Skagit Valley Medical Center, a multi-specialty medical group, with facilities in six locations in the Skagit Valley.

2011

In 2011, the hospital began training medical students.

2012

In 2012, the hospital opened an internal medicine residency.

2016

The combined organization is now known as Skagit Regional Health, which also acquired Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington in 2016.

2019

Christofferson, who was age 95 at the time she passed away in March 2019, was a lifelong Skagit County resident.
