Following a familiarization of safety procedures and a thorough review of each tool s user manual, the laborer may operate small power and hand tools, including but not limited to tampers, saws, straw blowers, seeders, surveying and measuring devices, concrete tools, pumps, and compressors. Safety training by the company will be required for all team members. Out-of-town work is probable and may require travel of up to three weeks away from home at a time. Dependable attendance and punctuality are critical. Responsibilities Ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Successfully masters safety training and completes hazard recognition; the daily Stop, Look, Assess, and Manage (SLAM) Booklet; and Task Hazard Analysis (THA) forms. Knows the safety procedures and performs thorough reviews of the operator/user manuals prior to operating any power tools or equipment. Cleans and prepare construction site to eliminate possible hazards. Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials. Trenches and backfills excavations and compacts and levels earth to grade specifications using shovels, picks, rakes, and tampers. Positions, aligns, joins, and seals structural components, such as concrete structures, pipe, and culverts. Accurately measures, marks, and records openings and distances as may be required for record drawings. Loads, unloads, and identifies materials and tools and distributes them to the appropriate location. Sets up traffic control zones, barricades, signage, ramps, and other temporary safety devices as deemed necessary by the site safety plan. Assists in seed bed preparation and mulching of seeded areas by means of engine powered straw blowers or by hand if necessary. Labors to assist in the installation of erosion control measures on environmental projects. Performs/assists with SWPPP inspections as required. Operates utility tractor, roller compactor, skid steer, off-road dump truck. Progression Team members will be assessed on their progression and capabilities through an annual evaluation or an out of cycle evaluation. For the annual evaluation, team members will complete a self-evaluation, while their supervisor will also complete an annual review. The process is imitated for the out of cycle evaluation. Once the self and supervisor evaluations are completed, the performance evaluation is reviewed by the workforce development planning group with respect to the areas of safety, quality, customer service, training record, hours of equipment operation and years in position/tenure. Kwest General superintendents and the director of field operations will recommend for a team member s classification compensation advancement or reclassification. Kwest Group president will review each recommendation and give the final approval for a classification compensation advancement or reclassification. An approved recommendation is then forwarded to the Director of HR for execution of advancement or reclassification. The team member s foreman and general superintendent will discuss with the team member regarding their evaluation and any change in compensation or classification. Education and Qualifications Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required. The average work week would consist of 5 ten-hour days, but schedule will be dictated by project needs. ust be able to work out of town, sometimes out of state, and for lengths of time, such as the job would dictate. A high school diploma, GED, or trade school certificate is preferred. Your skills and certifications are valuable, and Kwest recognizes it. Any special certifications or skills that are constructive to the position responsibilities will be taken into consideration when reviewing wage classification. Clean driving record. Working knowledge of construction site safety, truck maintenance, and road safety regulations. Qualifications What You Bring - At least 12 months' experience working on tree crews as a Trimmer Trainee. - Basic knowledge of tree species and arboriculture pruning techniques. - Ability to perform work at heights and use climbing gear or aerial lifts. - Trimmer Technical Knowledge and Skills Certification (or ability to complete). - Valid driver's license, CDL, and medical certification as required. - CPR and First Aid certified (provided by Lewis). - Acquire and keep the required training and licenses for the safe and proper use of herbicides. - Strong teamwork, communication, and situational awareness skills. - Ensure compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations Physical Demands Ability to: - Lift 50 lbs. to shoulder height or higher - Push or pull up to 50 lbs. - Walk or hike up to one mile on uneven terrain - Endure extreme climate variances (e.g., severe cold to high heat and humidity) - Hear, speak, see, and communicate effectively - Operate two-handed tools and equipment - Progress skill in tree ascent and descent - Work and maneuver at considerable heights during adverse weather conditions Continuously - Standing, Walking, Handling/Grasping, Repetitive Movements. Frequently - Lifting/Carrying, Pushing/Pulling, Stooping/Kneeling, Reaching/ Tree Ascending-Descending. Occasionally - Driving / Climbing (stairs/ladders) Rarely - Sitting/Operating Comments: You should expect variability in size, proportions, conditions, and weights of supplies, equipment, and work conditions. Environmental Conditions: Continuously - Outdoor work Occasionally - Noise Levels Frequently - Extreme Temperatures Rarely - Contact with hazardous materials or air quality issues Never - Confined Spaces Comments: You should expect variability based on regional weather patterns. Personal protective equipment is required to be worn by OSHA and ANSI.
