Adjust packing glands and repack approved valves, pumps and other equipment as required, using the appropriate hand tools and process instructions as trained and qualified. Perform simple machining jobs using the appropriate machine shop tools as trained and qualified. Use the appropriate measuring tools to lay out material such as, wear plates, cover plates, blanks, flange bolt holes, gaskets and other plane figures on flat surfaces as trained and qualified. Perform rough carpentry work, make minor repairs to brick or concrete walls and floors, perform rough plastering, replace glass, and repair window and door hardware. Clean, mask and prepare surfaces for painting, perform painting using brushes or spray equipment with approved paints, and clean painting equipment. Inspect, erect and remove simple rigging and blocking, and assist in the erection or removal of extensive or complicated rigging and blocking. Load, unload, move and handle materials and supplies using equipment such as, but not limited to, hoists, fork trucks, skid steer loaders, small tractors and automotive equipment. Perform duties incidental to the operation of such equipment, including changing and charging batteries, cleaning and general maintenance. Job DescriptionOVERVIEW J. Daniel & Company, a Division of Danella Companies, is seeking entry level and experienced laborers in our Cincinnati, Ohio location. RESPONSIBILITIES Duties include digging near various underground utilities, repair of existing conduit systems, placing of telephone cables, complete restoration of dirt, grass, asphalt, concrete, and brick pavers. Position requires working in confined spaces such as manholes and trench excavations, climbing of ladders, climbing in and out of trucks. Position requires the driving of a NON-CDL vehicle such as a one-ton dump truck, pick-up, or van. Individual must perform daily pre-trip and post trip inspections of vehicle and perform daily check of all vehicle fluids and tire pressure. Position requires operating vehicles in a safe manner, obeying all traffic laws, and following all DOT standards applicable to the vehicle. It is mandatory that this individual attends all safety meetings and required training. It is also required that all appropriate PPE is worn at all times. Position requires the completion of daily production sheets and to abide by all company policies and procedures. Description Laborer Report to: Foreman Team members classified in a laborer position shall assist in the safe completion of a variety of tasks associated with heavy construction, underground utilities construction, and environmental construction. Following a familiarization of safety procedures and a thorough review of each tool s user manual, the laborer may operate small power and hand tools, including but not limited to tampers, saws, straw blowers, seeders, surveying and measuring devices, concrete tools, pumps, and compressors. Safety training by the company will be required for all team members. Out-of-town work is probable and may require travel of up to three weeks away from home at a time. Dependable attendance and punctuality are critical. Responsibilities Ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Successfully masters safety training and completes hazard recognition; the daily Stop, Look, Assess, and Manage (SLAM) Booklet; and Task Hazard Analysis (THA) forms. Knows the safety procedures and performs thorough reviews of the operator/user manuals prior to operating any power tools or equipment. Cleans and prepare construction site to eliminate possible hazards. Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials. Trenches and backfills excavations and compacts and levels earth to grade specifications using shovels, picks, rakes, and tampers. Positions, aligns, joins, and seals structural components, such as concrete structures, pipe, and culverts. Accurately measures, marks, and records openings and distances as may be required for record drawings. Loads, unloads, and identifies materials and tools and distributes them to the appropriate location. Sets up traffic control zones, barricades, signage, ramps, and other temporary safety devices as deemed necessary by the site safety plan. Assists in seed bed preparation and mulching of seeded areas by means of engine powered straw blowers or by hand if necessary. Labors to assist in the installation of erosion control measures on environmental projects. Performs/assists with SWPPP inspections as required. Operates utility tractor, roller compactor, skid steer, off-road dump truck. Progression Team members will be assessed on their progression and capabilities through an annual evaluation or an out of cycle evaluation. For the annual evaluation, team members will complete a self-evaluation, while their supervisor will also complete an annual review. The process is imitated for the out of cycle evaluation. Once the self and supervisor evaluations are completed, the performance evaluation is reviewed by the workforce development planning group with respect to the areas of safety, quality, customer service, training record, hours of equipment operation and years in position/tenure. Kwest General superintendents and the director of field operations will recommend for a team member s classification compensation advancement or reclassification. Kwest Group president will review each recommendation and give the final approval for a classification compensation advancement or reclassification. An approved recommendation is then forwarded to the Director of HR for execution of advancement or reclassification. The team member s foreman and general superintendent will discuss with the team member regarding their evaluation and any change in compensation or classification. Education and Qualifications Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required. The average work week would consist of 5 ten-hour days, but schedule will be dictated by project needs. ust be able to work out of town, sometimes out of state, and for lengths of time, such as the job would dictate. A high school diploma, GED, or trade school certificate is preferred. Your skills and certifications are valuable, and Kwest recognizes it. Any special certifications or skills that are constructive to the position responsibilities will be taken into consideration when reviewing wage classification. Clean driving record. Working knowledge of construction site safety, truck maintenance, and road safety regulations.
