1989

In 1989 the first facility opened, a treatment residence called Skyland Trail.

1990

1990 Programs expand to include horticultural therapy, nutritional counseling and job coaching.Advisory Board established.

1991

1991 Aftercare and case management programs start to support transition to independent living.

1993

1993 Board adopts first long-range strategic plan

1995

Through a strategic plan adopted in 1995, Skyland Trail effectively invented a new model for treatment and service delivery, emphasizing comprehensive community-based therapy.

1998

1998 First Benefits of Laughter event

1999

The Skyland Trail Health and Education Center opened in 1999, the result of a capital campaign that surpassed its objective by raising $13.5 million to build a state-of-the-art headquarters and day treatment facility.

Skyland Trail has earned the Gold Seal of approval from The Joint Commission since 1999.

The first financial aid scholarships were awarded to clients in 1999.

The Life Enrichment Adult Program (LEAP) begins in 1999.

2000

The Skyland Trail Associates auxiliary group was established in 2000.

2003

2003 Professional Advisory Board is formed to forge stronger ties with Atlanta mental health professionals

2011

2011 First resident from Emory Medical School is welcomed and residency rotation program begins

2014

A fourth capital campaign in 2014 enabled the acquisition of land adjacent to the main campus and the construction of the Rollins Campus for young adults.

2015

The Rollins Campus opened in October 2015 with a residential wing with 32 private rooms dedicated to young adults ages 18 to 24 and a treatment wing with additional therapeutic space and a dining hall for all adult clients.

2019

In 2019, Skyland Trail completed construction on the J. Rex Fuqua Campus and opened a residential treatment program for adolescents ages 14 to 17.
