SkySong company history timeline

2005

2005 The City of Scottsdale and the Arizona State University Foundation reach an agreement to redevelop the corner of Scottsdale Road and McDowell Road into what will become SkySong.

2006

2006 Plaza Companies and its affiliates are selected as the Master Developer of SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center.

2008

2008 After two years of construction, the first two buildings at SkySong open and ASU SkySong is established.

2011

2011 After three years and in a challenging economy, SkySong 1 and 2 approach 95 percent occupancy as the project’s vision begins to become a reality.

2012

2012 Work begins on the SkySong Apartments, the residential component of the project with a total of 325 residences.

2013

Background: Holualoa Cos. joined SkySong ownership in 2013, replacing USAA Real Estate Co., which sold its share in the partnership.

2013 Work begins on SkySong 3, the newest office building at SkySong, with Workiva, ASU SkySong and Plaza Del Rio Management Corporation as initial tenants.

2013 SkySong Apartments are now open and available for immediate leasing, providing a new opportunity to live at SkySong!

2014

In 2014, Forbes magazine and CNN billed her as America's "youngest self-made woman billionaire."

2015

2015 SkySong 3 celebrated its Grand Opening on January 13, where Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane, ASU President Michael Crow and other dignitaries experienced the new building.

2016

2016 SkySong 4 opened in the fall to companies including Booker Software, Brightcove, EdPlus at ASU and Mindbody.

2017

2017 SkySong’s restaurant and retail building opened for business.

2019

2019 The Element Hotel at SkySong opened in July 2019.
