Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The below duties and responsibilities are essential core functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Process incoming materials to HNOC to be considered for loan or acquisition; responsible for preparing and distributing the bi-monthly acquisitions candidates report.
Prepare and generate legal documentation such as incoming receipts, deeds of gift, non-exclusive licenses, or similar documentation according to procedures set forth in HNOC's Collections Management Policy. Record acquisition meeting minutes.
Coordinate registration operations on approved acquisitions and process material from point of arrival to collections storage. Liaise with Cataloging, Photography, and Preparation teams on incoming material status.
Timely and accurately maintain and update the Collections Management database (Axiell) of acquisitions, accessions, and loan items.
Process and create documents for incoming and outgoing loans; create exhibition records as needed; record exhibition and loan histories for collection objects.
Participate in unpacking,?installation,?deinstallation,?packing,?and?couriering?of objects as necessary.
Identify, evaluate, and act as liaison with outside conservators who may be contracted to treat accessioned objects. Facilitate and monitor onsite examinations by conservators. Maintain regular contact with conservators to ensure that offsite treatment keeps scheduling and conforms to proposals
Oversee digitization projects internally and externally; conduct and organize inventories and rehousing projects of collections.
Assist with major projects and HNOC initiatives related to strategic planning, storage, re-accreditation, and renovation.
Monitor environmental conditions of storage spaces and galleries. Communicate issues to Facilities Staff, Collections Manager and Chief Curator.
Lead designated team during implementation of Hurricane Preparedness Plan and serve as Alternate to Collections Manager as part of post-disaster activities.
Assist the Collections Manager with loan administration, budgeting, fine arts insurance, and fiscal year reports, annual audits.
Requirements
Job Qualifications:
Below are the minimum requirements necessary for this position.
Bachelor's degree in history, museum studies or related field.
Minimum of five years of related experience working in a museum or comparable position. ?
Experience with museum registration or collections management and systems, as well as conservation standards and practices.
Ability to handle art objects per museum standards for two- and three-dimensional art objects in a variety of sizes, weights, and materials.
Experience with loans and fine art shipping is preferred, including customs requirements and CITES.
Proven ability to manage multiple complicated projects simultaneously; an ability to set and meet deadlines is essential. Aptitude to be flexible and responsive to an evolving work environment.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Experience with budgets and fine arts insurance.
Exceptional knowledge of New Orleans and Louisiana history and other institutions in the city and state and their holdings.
Ability to understand and become knowledgeable of HNOC holdings and ability to interpret and articulate this knowledge to others.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; advanced proficiency in collections management software, preferably Axiell Systems.
Available to work occasional evenings and weekends is preferred.

What You'll Do
The Horticulturist position works outdoors In public parks managed by Audubon Nature Institute and Is responsible for the overall landscape maintenance of their assigned park area in the downtown riverfront parks. Routine job tasks include general landscape maintenance such as planting, weeding, and pruning. Horticulturalist will set and monitor their Irrigation systems and manually water as required. The position will diagnose and treat plant Issues Including diseases, pests, and nutrient needs. The Horticulturists will properly use, maintain, and secure equipment such as leaf blowers and string trimmers, vehicles, and hand tools such as pruners, shovels, and sprayers.
The position works under the supervision of the Landscape Supervisor and may be assigned to oversee gardeners, volunteers, and Interns. The position will support the greater needs of the Park Operations department and will support the general success of the parks as assigned Including providing customer service to all park guests, supporting engagement and education, ensuring the park Is clean and free of trash, and supporting event production and recovery.
Day to Day Responsibilities
• Physically perform general horticultural maintenance, including planting, weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, deadheading, leaf-blowing, and completing minor irrigation maintenance.
• Remove trash from in and around garden beds including any hazardous items.
• Identify and treat common plant issues.
• Maintain garden projects on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis with a critical eye on detail.
• Contribute to educational and research projects as need to aid in community knowledge of plant materials and landscape maintenance practices.
• Adhere to safe and proper use of tools, PPE, equipment, and chemicals.
