Responsible for wearing proper mandatory safety gear in designated areas/situations.
Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures and OSHA guidelines.
Acquire proper paperwork and verify measuring devices prior to start of shift.
Use proper spacers in set up.
Contact lead or supervisor with equipment condition.
Responsible for housekeeping of set-up, staging and clearance areas.
Inspect and maintain knife conditions.
Assist on banding line as time allows.
Cut bands from coils on cart when time permits.
Assist steel transporter with Warehouse organization and loading transport truck, as needed.
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Must be certified by Major Metals Company to drive a forklift.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements:
This person is responsible for the safe and correct operation of equipment.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with federal, state and local standards.

Job Description
The Slitter Operator is responsible for operating machinery that converts paper rolls into finished products meeting customer specifications.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate at maximum productive speed allowable to achieve and maintain consistent high standards of quality for the finished product
Maintain consistent high standards
Stock with essential supplies
Make-ready reduction participation
Prepare finished rolls and provide the Auto Wrapper with ready-to-wrap product
Make all size changes, mount rolls, handle cores, and cut down bad product
Provide information to Maintenance and supervision via work orders on known equipment problems
Lift and move butt rolls, carry cores, cut paper with knife, bend, stoop, lift and step up and down
Keep the surrounding work area clean and neat at all times
Keep waste at a minimum

REQUIREMENTS:
Learn and understand all products and procedures
Must be trained in Optivision and Proficy
Good communication and organizational skills with fellow workers, leadership and support groups
Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills including how to read a ruler to +1/64”
Ensure that QMS document training is complete, current, and followed
Follow and adhere to all work practices, operating, standard, and make-ready procedures as set for this operation
Comply with all safety rules and regulations, report any problems or unsafe conditions and wear all safety equipment as required
Must be able to work independently and as a team member
Be able to problem solve in order to know what steps to take for production and quality needs
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment which includes participation in the Preventative Maintenance Programs
FLEXIBILITY:

Job Purpose A Slitter Operator is responsible for setting up a slitter according to customer specifications and work orders. Your detail, safety, and attentiveness is critical to regular equipment inspection and the ability to measure dimensions, align parts and produce material according to production instructions.
Essential Functions
• Inspect arbor and overarm setups to ensure compliance with production instructions
• Reconcile coil identity to production and load coil
• Thread coil through slitter head, cropping all non-complying material
• Review and record gauge, width, hardness, camber, burr and surface condition and ensure compliance with production instructions
• Set gauge monitoring system (if applicable) and ensure gauge calibration
• Thread steel mults into recoiler
• Run coils at maximum speed, ensuring efficiency and accuracy
• Monitor strip conditions to ensure compliance with production
• Document strip conditions, gauge as required and ensure customer specifications
• Band and identify slit mults in compliance with production and complete all proper documentation
• Remove scrap from machine regularly and empty hoppers as needed
• Communicate non-compliance production or quality problems to supervisor and/or shift lead
Working Conditions
The position will be in steel slitting facility using machines, hand tools, and forklifts. The shop floor is not climate controlled, so at times it will be hot/cold. Proper PPE is required, including steel/composite toed shoes, arm guards, gloves, and safety glasses.
