Slitter operator job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform set-up and operate slitting equipment to produce product according to quality and productivity requirements.
Maintain accurate documentation.
Provide training as required.
Provide communication on a daily basis with management, leadmen, maintenance, shift personnel, etc.
Maintain housekeeping standards of slitter and the surrounding area.
Perform packing and material handling tasks as required.
Cut cores as needed.
Responsible for helping the site meet their quality objectives.
Assist Press Operators as needed.
Follow all company safety rules and procedures.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Perform related duties as assigned by Supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum 2 years of slitting experience preferred.
Good mechanical ability.
Demonstrate ability to work well under pressure.
Good oral and written communication skills.
General knowledge of computers preferred.
Ability to use gauges and calipers.
Good math skills.
Able to pay attention to detail.


WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually high. Must be GMP compliant with gowning and proper attire/uniforms (i.e., head/shoe/beard covers and eye protection) where required. May be required to wear ear plugs. Ambient temperature can be as high as 110 degrees during summer months.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; bend; crouch; reach; kneel, crawl, use hands & fingers; talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 12 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Description:

• Review production orders - measure the gauge and the width
• Check hardness and formability if required
• Enter date into computer system
• Perform Quality checks
• Observe slitting and rewinding operations, examining cuts for conformity and defect
• May assist helpers with banding and packagers with preparing finished material for shipment
• Clean up and routine maintenance
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Helpers additionally perform overarm set ups, assist in loading coils, setting and pulling scrap and measuring to cut
• Helpers load the recoiler, adjust scrap when in line run, inspect coils, and cut coil when needed
• Replace and make old carpet boards, push off mults, write mults up, band mults
• Overtime (working 6 days a week)

Shear/Slitter Operator (Slitter_Cut-to-Length)

Co. is a steel processing plant
Pay rate:
up to $22/hr, based on exp. Job Responsibility:Operate the steel slitter effectively and efficiently while keeping the safety of yourself and fellow employees a priority.
Position Requirements:

1. Must be able to read a tape measure and know decimal to inch conversion.
2. Must have general computer knowledge.
3. Must be able to work well and communicate well with others.
4. Must use great attention to detail during manufacturing be familiar with requirements of quality management system.
5. Must have experience with steel defects and handling, storing of steel coils.
6. Must have experience as assistant operator or operator for slitter, cut-to-length shearing machine or steel coil slear equipment.

Job Duties Include, but not limited to:

1. Operator acts as Team Leader for his/her shift’s operation.
2. As Team Leader making sure that your team does the following, but not limited to:
   1. Keeping area clean and free from safety hazards.
   2. Measurement tools are verified daily.
   3. Scrap, trash, etc. is disposed of in proper containers.
   4. Signing off work instructions is done and up to date.
   5. Operational audits as assigned.
3. Reviewing work orders and ensuring all requirements are met.
4. Verifying all details (correct information, correct material, correct size, customer specifications).
5. Monitoring material while running a job.
6. Taking pictures and downloading into system during a job

Job Classification: Hourly, Full-Time
Hours:
5am start, 8-10hrs available per day, Mon- Sat.
