Core Responsibilities
Production employees at Smithfield handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to help deliver good food responsibly to America's dinner table. Production team members at Smithfield perform physically demanding work that requires good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength and stamina. Team members must be available to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime, depending upon production demands.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * This work is physically demanding and can require the use of some or all body parts and muscle groups. Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, single lifting of heavy objects which can weigh up to 60 lbs, or lifting of objects using mechanical assistance.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Position is responsible supervising liquid production areas at the West Jefferson, OH facility and for the training, scheduling and development of 15 - 20 employees. This position has the responsibility to comply with safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce safety as a core value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. This is an overnight position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Produces the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost consistent with good manufacturing practices.
* Provides a safe work environment for all personnel.
* Recognizes and takes steps to resolve operating problems in order to minimize their impact on the operations.
* Requests and directs services of maintenance, sanitation and other personnel as may be necessary to achieve the desired level and quality of production, sanitation, safety and warehouse services.
* Cooperates with all departments to assure a coordinated work relationship exists at all times.
* Responsible for ingredient usage and all other department costs.
* Keeps accurate and up-to-date records (i.e. timecards, downtime records, absentee records, etc.).
* Enforces company policies in a fair and consistent manner.
* Encourages suggestions from employees which will improve production, quality, safety and/or control costs of production.
* Keeps operations manager informed on operating and/or employee problems, quality, safety and/or control costs of production.
* Maintains consistent communications and monthly department meetings.
* Provides a safe working environment.
* Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
* Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
* Ensures regulatory compliance at all times.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
* 2+ years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry.

This location is part of our Prepared Foods Division. You can expect to your day to day include maintaining high production, quality, and yields while ensuring the safest working environment possible. This position requires an essential understanding and control of the production process, accurate record keeping, and general line maintenance and staffing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
You'll build the best team possible. That includes Hiring, training, Retaining, and counseling on personal and professional problems as well as educating your team on benefits, compensations, and company policies. You'll guide the team in stretches before their shift and rotate workstations throughout the shift.
Checking daily production orders to ensure fulfillment of customer orders, ensuring accurate shipments, record keeping, rotation of inventory, and proper coding of products.
Ensuring all workstations on your line are staffed before start-up of production.
Ensuring all machinery is performing and all workstations have passed USDA Inspection
Promoting safety daily as well as through monthly safety meetings
Overseeing various processing operations and working with other supervisors in solving problems
Providing continuous education on the importance of quality
Performing other responsibilities as the need arises
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: 1+ years in a manufacturing environment and prior supervisory experience preferred. Specific experience in a meat processing facility or food manufacturing environment preferred.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Special Skills: Strong leadership and problem-solving skills; strong work ethic and ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
Travel: Some travel is required. This could be to other facilities or to corporate.
Preferred Skills, but NOT Required: Knowledge of food industry, processes and equipment and technologies. Understanding of financial indicators / analysis and experienced in budget development / management.
