SMS group company history timeline

1950

Excellent customer service remains the core value of SMS group with predecessor companies such as Acutus, Gladwin, Girard, and Millcraft Products whose origins all began in providing maintenance services for metals and mining industries back in the 1950’s.

1981

As the market for billet casters held little attraction for the large plant engineering companies, Heinrich Tanner, the long-standing managing director, took over the business of the spin-off, “Concast Standard AG”, in 1981.

1997

A first minimill from Concast was commissioned at Namheng in Thailand in 1997.

2004

In 2004 SMS took over 100 percent of the Concast shares.

2011

On 1st of January 2011 SMS Concast became part of the SMS Meer business area in order to be able to better serve the growing demand for complete minimills.

2015

As response to the difficult market situation, SMS Group launched an efficiency-boosting program which included the merger of SMS Meer & SMS Siemag by the end of 2015.
