SMS is seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused heavy equipment operator for its Mingo Junction, OH location. · Equipment Operator will learn the role and complete work at the direction of a more senior Equipment Operator or Supervisor. · Equipment Operator will learn how to operate various pieces of heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner while moving scrap material around the scrap yard for processing. · Equipment Operator will ensure that all his/her efforts are compliant with the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. · Equipment Operator will learn one or more of the following: loaders, drop-ball cranes, material handlers, excavators, pot carriers. · Safety and coordination with other work onsite is imperative. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights including but not limited to loaders, drop-ball cranes, material handlers, excavators, pot carriers. · Keep the yard clean. · Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as other equipment, workers, or moving objects · Perform daily inspections, safety checks, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment; check required fluids and grease equipment. Front line operations role responsible for direct supervision of daily activities of employees. Utilizes employees in the most efficient manner to maximize production and minimize costs. Leads and maintains the highest safety standards within the host Mill. Responsibilities: Ensure a safe workplace. Lead by example and adhere to safety requirements in a scrap and slag yard environment. Always wearing proper PPE and addressing any employee not adhering to PPE requirements. Lead a production team and effectively manage each shift to maximize production and minimize costs in the most efficient manner. Prepare daily reports and provide information to management as needed, including ensuring all inspections and operation checklists required to be completed by hourly employees are prepared and submitted appropriately. Meet KPl's (Key Performance Indicators) to meet or exceed efficiency and performance standards. Maintain strict compliance with SMS policies, and all applicable local, state and federal regulations. Control and coordination of mill service activities as delegated, including: Scrap unloading and loading. Scrap breaking, shearing and cutting (in conjunction with supervisor of the burning floor) Rental work with personnel and equipment Environmental services MR Plant Operations Scrap inspection Timely rail services to the Customer.
