Purpose
Ability to machine, mill, and grind various types of metals. Primarily 1st shift schedule, could include 2nd, 3rd, split shifts, weekends, holidays, 12 hour shifts. Daily work activity is directed by the Group Leader and a Maintenance Machinist A. Reports directly to the department Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Performs all tasks under general supervision.
Provides training and assistance to less experienced Machinists.
Assumes ownership of work task and demonstrates initiative to get work completed.
Creates and reworks machinery and equipment components according to requisition documentation, blueprints, or other drawings.
Sets up equipment operation feed, speed and temperature.
Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC (computerized numerical control) manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, grinding, and stamping to fabricate, form or shape manufactured parts, tools or parts assemblies from raw materials.
Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
Performs reworking and machining of new and spare production parts for departments.
Repairs maintenance parts as needed.
Verifies the accuracy of work by using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and various measuring instruments.
Order and maintain project related material as required.
Assist with keeping neat and orderly records on work performed and repairs made.
Work with Engineering, Production Team Leads, Managers, Group Leaders, and fellow tradesmen to accomplish the desired result.
Adjust schedule and work hours to accomplish the desired result, must be able to work weekends and holidays as required.
Perform work assignments efficiently while being consistent with good safety practices.
Report any maintenance and/or safety issues to supervisor.
Review, understand, and follow all Company specifications and procedures, and regulatory rules and requirements that are associated with the performance of this job.

Basic Requirements
Must pass the skilled trade assessment test for this position.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience reading mechanical drawings.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in proper machining and grinding techniques (Feed rates, sequencing, cutting speeds).
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in setting up machine tools to produce precision parts.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in writing and modifying machine programs.
Must be able to use math to calculate dimensions and determine speeds and feed rates.
Ability to use various measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.)
Excellent attendance required.
Must possess basic mechanical aptitude.
Must possess good organizational and communication skills.
Team oriented, self-motivated, safety and quality conscious; requiring minimal supervision.
Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.

Experience with rotary fillers, casepackers, palletizers, or wrappers (robotics highly preferred)
Read and interpret ladder logic diagrams, read blueprints, wiring diagrams and make own layouts as required
Independently trouble shoot, diagnose, repair, and install a range of equipment from low voltage to 480 volt/277 volt circuits, motor controls, control logic, and power wiring.

What you'll be doing:
Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and determine corrective action by checking blueprints, schematics, repair manuals and parts catalogs.
Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
Performing basic welding activities to effect repairs on facilities and equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) and associated control systems.
Perform and assign all preventive maintenance on facility and production assets.
Follow blueprints, schematics, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications using a documented schedule.
Perform boiler chemical and wastewater pre-treatment system testing, record results in logbooks / computer systems and make necessary chemical adjustments as required.
Manage and assign all equipment maintenance, including repairs which cannot be completed during standard hours.
Assume responsibility for all shifts in the maintenance department.
Oversee and implement all maintenance related regulatory and environmental compliance requirements.
Assume responsibility for all aspects of safety within the maintenance department.
Perform Confined Space and Lockout / Tagout procedures where appropriate.
Monitor training status of technicians and provide time for required training as needed.
Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Partner with the Production Manager to develop, manage and maintain budget for building, equipment, capital expenditures and parts/labor.
Train and develop maintenance partners.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
What we're looking for:
High school and/or GED is preferred.
Two-year technical degree in an appropriate background is preferred.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid driver's license and a safe driving record are required.
Must pass UniFirst's maintenance knowledge assessment to be eligible for employment.
Knowledgeable in maintenance equipment. This includes wiring, electrical, mechanical, electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing required.
Minimum of 3 years of work experience repairing industrial processing equipment in a production environment required. Applicable military experience will be considered.
Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising maintenance personnel is preferred.
Maintenance administration experience including planning, scheduling, budgeting, negotiating, parts management, vendor management, maintenance management systems is required.
Ability to read blueprints and schematics is required.
Ability to read and understand maintenance literature printed in English required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills is required.
Experience in Hand & Power tools is required.
Lockout / Tagout experience is required
Ability to work overtime as needed is required.
Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
