Snow plow operator job description

• Operates pickup truck with snowplow and deicer to remove ice and snow from commercial accounts throughout assigned areas, which require early morning starts, extended hours, and weekend duty including holidays.
• Responds in a timely manner (within 30 minutes) when called to assist in snow plowing.
• Ensure that assigned properties under responsibility of this position are adequately and safely serviced when required.
• At times shoveling of snow, grounds maintenance and other duties as assigned related to facilities and site maintenance might be needed.
• Inspects equipment on regularly scheduled basis before leaving for a shift. Complies with safety precautions.
• Maintains clean and ready to go equipment needed for snow removal.
• Follows all safety rules, policies, and regulations. Able to work independently with minimal supervision to complete the job.
• Reports all incidents involving equipment’s functioning to Supervisor(s).
• Must own and be able to use Smart Phone to log services when on site.

SUPERVISOR(S): Project Manager / Area Manager / Operations Manager

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of the position is to respond in a timely manner to snow events and assisting in completing effective and safe snow removal throughout the areas assigned and with assisting helping locations outside coverage area when needed. The position is required to perform all tasks in an effective, complete, and professional manner and is responsible for adhering to all policies and values of the East End Group LLC. while at work.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent, with prior responsible work experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Applicant must possess a valid Driver’s License - Class A or B with air brake endorsement vehicles also available for driving but need to have the proper license.
• This position will include testing and review of previous employment record for substance abuse. This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation rules.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to operate truck and attached equipment requiring monitoring multiple conditions and making multiple, complex, and rapid adjustments that comes with snow removal.
• Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing highly skilled movements.
• Ability to exert moderately heavy (up to 50 pounds) physical effort in moderate to heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
• Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, forms, sounds, and textures associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks.

Work Environment and Adaptability:

• Ability to work under moderately safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations and extremes, noise, vibrations, machinery, wetness, snow / ice for weather, vehicular traffic and/or dust, may cause some discomfort and where there is a risk of injury.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None.

SALARY: $25 - $35 per hour based on qualifications

SPECIAL NOTES: Candidates that get hired will be required to attend special training before the season starts. If training is not attended candidate will not be able to start working snowstorms until they pass the training and competency assessments of the information. Specific dates and information will be discussed during interview process.

• Perform a variety of skilled construction and maintenance tasks.

• Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions.

• Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
• A high school diploma or equivalent
• 2-5+ years of experience or a satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Must have a current, valid driver's license and be able to obtain/maintain a security clearance if needed.
• Must be willing to Travel and stay out of town 2 1/2 weeks or more
• Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, walk, lift overhead, work at heights, walk/work in rough terrain in order to access equipment, tools, materials, and jobsite in order to complete work. Must be able to lift 70 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity are necessary.
• Hiring is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Previous underground utility experience a plus
• Must have experience in operating a backhoe and/or plow and digging around utilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 or more years of experience operating small plows to large plows (RT 115 Quad track plow up to John Deere 950 with Bron plow units 100 -250 in size).
• Heavy equipment operator experience and any applicable licensure.
• OQ Certification preferred.
• DOT Certified Flagger training.
• CDL Class A license.(Preferred)
