Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in a variety of setting ranging from departmental offices, client homes, courtrooms or alternative staffing sites. Considerable field travel is required, for which private means of transportation must be available.
Crisis situations may arise at any hour and may require evening or weekend responses. Incumbents predictably encounter high levels of stress and emotional situations, strong differences of opinion, and potentially exposure to physical danger. Class incumbents may be required to be on available or standby status during night, weekend, and holiday hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in socialwork.
OR
Bachelor's degree AND eighteen (18) months of human services casework, including at least six months with a child or youth services caseload where duties included direct responsibility for client intake, assessment, plan development, monitoring, service procurement, and case closure in a formal human services delivery system.
OR
Satisfactory completion of 12 to 18 months experience as a Family Services Worker trainee in DCF.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This person provides direct clinical mental health evaluation and individual and group psychotherapy to the patient population of individuals with elevated risk for suicide through the University of Vermont Health's Suicide Care Clinic. Included in these services are providing direct diagnosis and empirically supported treatment to patients as well as case management duties such as: consultation with primary care and other referring providers in the community; assessment for program admission; clinical evaluation and diagnosis of mental health disorders in conjunction with DSM and ICD 10 codes; coordination of services with Crisis and inpatient psychiatric providers if needed, prior to inpatient admission and in acute after care following discharge; both outside and internal to the Department of Psychiatry in this or other affiliates; daily/weekly case presentation at internal rounds; contact with significant collateral members of the patient support network; establishment of clinically appropriate post-treatment aftercare plan and contact with community providers/agencies/resources; contribution to the education and training of mental health clinicians, to include clinical supervision of students and trainees. Timely and accurate documentation is a must.
The mental health clinician is responsible for formulating the plan of care and coordinating treatment for the patient while in the program. The clinician is also responsible for treatment plan updates, after care planning and written documentation of the discharge plan, including all treatment interventions provided while the patient was in our care. Able to demonstrate professional flexibility and effectively coordinate high acuity patient care with multiple providers within and outside of our health network.
EDUCATION:
Applicant must have a necessary education (Master's degree minimum in SocialWork). Applicant must hold current State of Vermont, SocialWork License. A valid LICSW license is required to apply for this position. Training or certification may be required in a specific area: Case Management, Group Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD, or Substance Use Treatment.
EXPERIENCE:
At least 3 years direct clinical experience post licensure in an acute or sub-acute mental health setting. A minimum 3 years direct experience post licensure providing individual, family and group psychotherapy.
Training in acute crisis intervention
Training in suicide risk assessment and symptom reduction
Training in manualized psychotherapies
Experience with co-occurring disorders (including substance use disorder and medical complications) and multi-axial diagnostic presentations
Familiarity with psychotropic medications and their role in treatment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary
Strongly Preferred:
Training and experience in CBT/DBT approaches to acute mental health symptom reduction or alleviation.
Experience with addictive disorders and populations
Experience working with a multidisciplinary team
Experience providing clinical supervision to students and trainees
Additional clinical certifications and skills in specific clinical specialties are welcomed.

Education Requirements
Master's degree from a school accredited by the Council of SocialWork Education.
Qualifications and Requirements
Licensed Master of SocialWork (LMSW)/Licensed Clinical SocialWorker (LCSW) in NYS required.
Minimum 1 years' experience in healthcare setting.
Work Environment
The Medical SocialWorker is primarily in an office setting and may be exposed to outdoor conditions.

Position Overview
The SocialWorker will serve as a primary therapist within the Adirondack Mental Health Unit, a facility operated by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH). This unit provides mental health services to forensic patients within a secure correctional environment. The selected candidate will play a key role in delivering therapeutic services, conducting assessments, and maintaining accurate clinical documentation in accordance with OMH policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Provide individual therapeutic services to patients within the forensic mental health unit.
Complete comprehensive clinical assessments and documentation, including but not limited to:
Core History
Suicide and Risk Assessments
Weekly and Monthly Progress Notes
Treatment Plans
Discharge Plans
Adhere to established clinical protocols, policies, and procedures.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support patient treatment and continuity of care.
Maintain professional boundaries and uphold safety standards when working with incarcerated individuals.
Requirements
Completion of required TB testing prior to assignment.
Willingness and ability to work directly with incarcerated individuals in a secure facility.
Successful completion of Central New York Psychiatric Center (CNYPC) Orientation.

Work Schedule
Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
No weekend work required.
