    Under the general supervision of a licensed school social worker, the SSW intern will participate as a key member of the educational team working closely with other evaluators, service providers, students, and families in determining eligibility for special education services. The SSW intern will have the opportunity to use information collected through assessment and data collection to design appropriate services to support each students' unique needs in the variety of educational settings. Expertise in a number of areas is drawn upon every day to provide direct social work services, collaborate with school personnel and families, and develop crisis intervention. Knowledge of, or a willingness to learn about and access, social and behavioral support services in the area are important in this position. Qualifications * Must be enrolled in a master's degree program in social work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program with a specialization in school social work completing requirements to lead to ISBE licensure in School Support Personnel-School Social Worker * Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills with the ability and willingness to collaborate with school personnel to promote student learning * Possess a valid driver's license and maintains automotive insurance coverage as required by IL law Salary/Benefits This is a paid internship with contribution toward single insurance, professional development, mileage reimbursement, mentoring and supports, and supervision related to obtaining LCSW upon licensure. Salary range is between $17,000 and $20,000 for full-time employment. Incentives are also offered for continuing employment. JOB SUMMARY: The Social Worker promotes and enhances the overall academic mission of the Urbana School District #116 by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Assess students to determine their need for school social work or other services and address the social and emotional needs of students based on assessment. Provide crisis intervention to school age children and their families as appropriate and as requested by administrative personnel assigned to school. Establish and maintain home/school ties for students and work with families concerning home situations that relate to school performance. Participate in Special Education Services evaluations of students, including adaptive behavior assessments and social development studies. Provide assistance to teachers or teams in planning to meet the needs of students. Participate in efforts to remediate student truancy, delinquency and behavior problems. Maintain records memorializing professional social work services rendered. Coordinate student transitions within District programs, schools, services and communities. Maintain communication with appropriate community agencies and aid in finding solutions to community-wide problems that affect students and families. Evaluate and refer students and their families to appropriate resources within the school and community. Adhere to laws and procedures involving child abuse/neglect and cooperate with community agencies to identify the need for protective services for children. Identify and offer in-service training for school personnel and parents engage in group social work meetings. Participate in professional growth activities including workshops, institutes, seminars and research projects. Participate in local, state, regional and national professional organizations related to social work profession. Recommend lesson and curriculum modifications to meet needs of individual students and groups of students. Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, Building Principals and/or the Assistant Superintendent for Special Services. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION Minimum Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in social work. EXPERIENCE Two years or more of school-based experience preferred except in the case of a new Social Worker. JOB SUMMARY: The School Psychologist Intern has a foundation in both psychology and education and assists in the development of a school environment that assesses and supports students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Implement a problem-solving framework as a basis for all professional activities. Participate in and facilitate, as needed, RTI/Problem Solving meetings and special education collaboration meetings. Collect data from multiple sources as a foundation for decision-making. Use valid and reliable assessment techniques. Observe academics and behaviors of students in classrooms for evaluation and problem-solving purposes. Assist teachers, as time allows, in assessment administration. Assist teachers in data collection, management, and analysis. Make recommendations based on full individual evaluation data for special education or 504 eligibility, services and/or program placement, academic or behavioral accommodations, and community services. Comply with district eligibility criteria when determining eligibility for special education services. Meet all district, State, and federal timelines and requirements for special education evaluation and service delivery procedures. Prepare clearly-written reports that address referral questions and provide guidance for intervention strategies in a timely manner. Work within the school and community to facilitate implementation of recommendations. Consult with teachers and other personnel regarding services and needs. Contribute to the planning of district-wide programs and services. Attend building, district, and other required meetings. Attend professional meetings, trainings, and other activities for professional improvement. Provide individual counseling, direct instruction, check in/check out, and other activities to enhance student supports in the school as time allows. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION Master's degree in school psychology, Illinois licensure as School Psychologist Intern EXPERIENCE 2 years school-based experience preferred OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Highly organized Excellent communication and collaboration skills Excellent problem-solver Should be able to work with students with a history of behavior or learning problems TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary is $25,000 EVALUATION: To be completed by the Lead School Psychologist, if appropriately licensed. Otherwise, the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services evaluates with input from Lead Psychologist.
