General Information:
The Counseling Center (CC) at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for a Victim Advocate/Staff Clinician. Victim Advocacy Services (VAS) are a separate and distinct service from counseling services; however, they operate under the umbrella of the CC. In addition to providing advocacy services, advocates participate in a variety of CC activities and services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Victim Advocate is an 11-month continuing position that will provide advocacy services for students. In addition to providing advocacy services and raising awareness for VAS services, the position may include the opportunity to provide short-term individual, group and crisis counseling, consultation services and outreach programming, and training and supervision of graduate students and clinicians in training.
Responsibilities associated with this role include:
* Provide advocacy to student survivors of sexual violence, hate crime(s), and/or other interpersonal violence.
* Collaborate with the CC's Sexual Trauma Empowerment Program (STEP) coordinator to ensure efficient, trauma informed care and referrals between services.
* Consult with faculty, staff, and other relevant individuals on student cases as needed.
* Maintain an awareness of the professional literature regarding victim advocacy and awareness and working to incorporate this information into the standards and practices of the Victim Advocacy services.
* Participate in and/or co-chair various multidisciplinary teams (e.g. Sexual Assault Response Team, Coalition to End Sexual Violence, Coordinated Community Response Team).
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
* The successful candidate must have a master's degree in psychology, counseling, education, socialwork or related field.
Desired Qualifications:
* Preference for candidate to be licensed (or eligible for residency) as a Psychologist, Counselor, or SocialWorker within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
* Preference for the candidate to have NACP Advocate Credentialing through the National Organization for Victim Assistance.
* Training and/or experience in the provision of advocacy services.
* Training and/or experience working with sexual assault, hate crime(s), and/or other interpersonal violence victims/survivors.
* Training and/or experience working with college-aged population.
* Self-motivated and self-directed display of high professional standards and practice.
* Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple complex clinical situations.
* Proven skills of warm, trusting, and respectful care towards colleagues.
* Demonstrated ability to manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships.
* Experience collaborating with other departments, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Position Requirements:
The most qualified candidates will possess the following:

No legal impediments to serving in a licensed opiate treatment program.

Primary Function:

Responsibilities and Job Expectations:
Maintain a high standard of childcare during coverage, including appropriate documentation of each shift. The NP/PA will evaluate and manage medicine patients within an outpatient/ambulatory setting for acute and chronic conditions, in addition to preventive and wellness assessments for patients of all ages. Details regarding the specific scope of practice will be completed within the practice agreement/practice protocol signed between the NP/PA and the Collaborating Physician.
Education
Graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on the Education of Physician Assistants (ARC-PA) OR
Graduate of a nationally accredited school of nursing with Bachelors in nursing and Masters Degree in advanced practice nursing.
Experience
Previous community health and wellness services experience desired as well as prior experience in an office setting for one year in primary care or emergency care is preferred.
Knowledgeable in the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development.
Certification & Licensures
Possesses and maintains an unrestricted license to practice as a PA or an NP in Virginia
Possesses and maintains an unrestricted DEA license to prescribe in Virginia
Maintains and provides proof of CME requirements as put forth by the Virginia Board of Medicine.
Recertification, if required, is necessary

General Definition of Work:

Consults with other psychologists to enhance and broaden the internship experience.
Performs psycho-educational assessments of students, observations, data collection, interpretation and analyses.

Collect data regarding student behaviors and recommend appropriate instructional modifications to develop responsible thinking and decision-making skills in students. Identify and implement appropriate interventions for students in need of additional assistance.
Consults and collaborates with parents, teachers, students, and administrators.
Works with critical incident team in the schools, including reaction to illness, deaths, and abuse.
Work in a collaborative manner with peers and school personnel to ensure successful and efficient transitioning for students to return to his/her home school to include the creation of Transition Plans.
Provides individual and group counseling / psychological services.
Develops and coordinates various psychological services available to students and staff.
Present professional development for administrators and teachers on behavior intervention, substance abuse, anger management, as well as other topics and support the staff in the implementation of their new learning.
Assist families and school staff in accessing community resources
Keep teachers and other staff informed of progress, incidents and concerns.
Serves as a liaison between home, school, and community. Coordinates community resources to address child and family needs.
Provides written evaluations that are reviewed and co-signed by supervisor, as required by state, federal and local guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of school psychology, including knowledge of psychological evaluations using intelligence, personality, psychomotor function; behavioral and personality instruments; knowledge of child growth and development, learning, measurement, research, statistics, and intervention and prevention strategies. Knowledge of federal and state regulations as well as, guidelines related to special education and pupil personnel service programs. Demonstrated ability in individual and group decision-making, problem analysis and conflict resolution, and collaboration with other therapeutic and instructional personnel. Intern psychologist must be knowledgeable and proficient with technology tools.
Education and Experience:
Interns must be working toward an educational specialist degree from an approved program in school psychology and are required to seek provisional certification as a School Psychologist in Virginia. Individual/group supervision is tailored to individual needs and internship program requirements. Interns must hold a valid driver's license.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:
Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Occasional attendance to parent conferences, building-level meetings and division wide meetings and training activities beyond normal assigned hours is necessary. Daily personal close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, parents and medical professionals may be required. Contacts with community and division-level staff may require considerable tact and diplomacy.
