Mental Health Specialists (MHS) deliver direct care services under the supervision of a Therapist or a Mental Health Professional who is responsible for each resident's Active Treatment Plan. Mental Health Specialists have one of the most direct and influential roles in our residents' progress in treatment.
Mental Health Specialists report directly to their unit's Supervisor regarding shift scheduling, training, daily activity schedules, house maintenance, and all the other tasks related to the direct care of residents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensure the provision of compassionate, culturally sensitive services. 2. Ensure all house or unit residents are present and on time for all clinical activities. Any absence from a clinical activity must be preapproved by the Therapist responsible for a resident's Active Treatment Plan. (This is a primary responsibility and will be measured by the agency's QA process.) 3. Create a culture of care which discourages the use of protective holds and escorts. (This is primary responsibility and will be measured by the agency's QA process.) 4. With the assistance of the Therapist, create a living environment which residents evaluate positively. (This is a primary responsibility and will be measured by the agency's QA process.) 5. Ensure agency's Behavioral Management Plan is implemented with fidelity. 6. Actively participate in treatment team meetings and communicate fully regarding the delivery of treatment services to the house or unit residents, each resident's progress and condition on the unit or house, and the impact of program operations on treatment. 7. Implement with fidelity all personalized interventions indicated in each resident's Active Treatment Plan. 8. Maintain the structure, cleanliness and organization of the house or unit. 9. Implement the agency's milieu model with fidelity. 10. Provide life skill training to residents as a routine matter in the course of daily living in the house or unit. 11. Interact positively with residents, their family members, fellow staff members and all other stakeholders. 12. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Must be an eager learner and willing to try new methods. 3. Must have a fundamental love for children and a desire to be an agent for change in their lives. 4. Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in a mental health-related field (including, but not limited to sociology, criminal justice, nursing, marriage and family counseling, rehabilitation counseling, psychological counseling and other professional counseling); or 5. Have earned a Bachelor's degree and is a student pursuing a graduate degree in a mental health-related field and have completed at least two courses in that identified field; or 6. Have a high school degree or a GED and have two years experience providing direct services in a mental health, physical health, social services, educational or correctional setting. 7. Must possess a strong sense of personal authority, maturity and integrity for a positive, influential role with children. 8. Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in a diverse range of audiences and settings. 9. Must be skilled in conflict resolution and mediation. 10. Must have strong verbal and social skills for use with residents and staff. 11. Must be committed to the protection of confidential information, records and reports. 12. Must have a strong work ethic and be willing to commit to significant job responsibilities. 13. Must be flexible in ability to function in demanding position.

Job Summary
Odyssey House Louisiana, Inc. is seeking a full-time Licensed Counselor or SocialWorker. The schedule is Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm and weekends as needed. The Counselor will provide specialized services for the assigned caseload, provide core and ancillary group therapies weekly, individual counseling and when appropriate, family therapy. The Counselor has the main responsibility of maintaining communication with the referral source, court systems, and other involved human service providers as related to the client's ongoing treatment and discharge planning. Responsibilities and Duties
It is the duty and responsibility of the Counselor to:
· provide Clinical services to assigned clients; conduct weekly group therapies, individual counseling and/or family therapy as outlined in treatment plans; co-lead group therapies; conduct family assessments/therapy;
· function as a liaison to outside agencies, participate in case planning conferences, and treatment meetings and, when necessary, attend court hearings and represent the agency and client(s);
· maintain contact with and is available to Agency personnel, client's drug court officer, and family members regarding client's progress, problems and crises;
· maintain clinical case file for each client to include: assessments, Individual Treatment Plans,
· Case notes, and discharge summaries;
· apply ASAM Criteria to treatment planning;
· maximize units of services and maintain contract units of service by working with clients to stay engaged in treatment;
· provide crisis management when indicated by client need;
· assist with the planning and organization of therapeutic client actives both at and outside of the facility;
· ensure all written reports are up-to-date in case file;
· ensure completion of electronic medical record documentation;
· attend staff and other meetings;
· attend regularly scheduled in-service training;
· participate in quarterly training with staff;
· complete all Incident Reports prior to the end of scheduled shift as required by Incident Policy and Procedure;
· adhere to all Louisiana Department of Health and Agency contract requirements;
· maintain COA standards and participate in COA site audits;
· collaborate with other departments;
· work with Bayou Health providers for initial authorization and concurrent authorizations;
· ensure that all sign in sheets are printed for group and all groups are batched for billing; and
· perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills

Minimum qualifications include the following:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Valid CIT certification
· Currently enrolled in a Clinical SocialWork or Counseling Master's Degree program
· At least 1 year of substance use disorder treatment modalities (emphasis on Minnesota Model) and DSM-V experience

Keep all patient charts up to date.
Work collaboratively with the medical and clinical team and provide immediate notification of unusual or potentially high-risk findings.
Actively participate in weekly medical and/or clinical staffing of patients.
Contact current patients on a regular basis to keep patients engaged.
Provide support for clinical services to other team members when needed.
Adhere to rules and regulations regarding treatment, such as group size, caseload and referrals.
Aggressively implement continuous quality improvement initiatives.

You must have the following education, skills and experience to be considered:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.
Current, unrestricted license - LAC, CAC, RAC, CCS, LMSW, LCSW, LPC (or PLPC), LMFT (or PLMFT), etc. A Counselor in Training (CIT) may be permitted in lieu of a license.
Prior experience as a clinician, providing therapy services in addiction treatment or dual-diagnosis.
Possess an understanding of the role of 12-step principles in sobriety.
Ability to positively interact and develop rapport with patients and their families, professional support staff, team members and various individuals from the community agencies.
Ability to effectively communicate both in writing and verbally.
High energy with engaging personality and strong people skills.
Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.
Ability to multi-task and successfully prioritize workload.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
