Behavioral Health Specialists (BHS) work with individuals, groups, and communities to improve mental health as a part of a treatment team. They provide rehabilitation focused on Intensive Home-Based Services (IHBS) and Intensive Care Coordination (ICC) including facilitation of Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Two years related experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, Word.
Knowledge of community resources preferred.
Bilingual preferred.
A valid California driver's license is required of staff who have regular driving duties, and the driving record must meet the requirements of their position and be approved by the agency's insurance company.

Must implement program goals and objectives to meet and maintain contractual requirements of maintaining a caseload with a 35% monthly productivity level.
Provide Crisis Intervention and be available after hours, nights, and/or weekends in accordance with programmatic need. On call required.
Participate in scheduled peer review.
Responsible for preventing and controlling infection.
Responsible for maintaining a culture of quality and safety.
Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.
Properly administer the C-SSRS to help prevent suicide.
Other:
Attend all required meetings and trainings.
Report any suspected child or dependent adult/elder abuse or neglect immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.
Report any client imminent danger to self or to others or gravely disabled immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Qualifications

The Position
The Mental Health Specialist (MHS) is responsible for providing direct clinical intervention to participants (families and individual adults) in Interim Housing Site(s) or as part of a street-based Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). The MHS will identify participants needing mental health services through assessments, referrals, and coordination of care with partner agencies. The MHS will connect participants to community based and mental health care, provide crisis prevention and intervention, recommend level of care options, and support participants by utilizing evidenced based clinical modalities The MHS will provide in-person individual one-on-one care and lead groups. The MHS will also support their team by consulting on cases, providing recommendations for services and modeling appropriate interventions with members of their multidisciplinary team. The MHS must be able to complete thorough clinical assessment, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and collaborate closely with various community-based programs connected to the Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Department of Health Services (DHS).
What You'll Do
Provides in-person, individual and group based clinical case management and behavioral health services to people experiencing homelessness in interim housing settings or within a homeless outreach team.
Conducts mental health, substance use and safety/risk assessments on identified participants
Creates relationships with mental health service providers, Department of Mental Health, VA and hospital socialwork teams. Refer participants for services as well as maintain a resource listing of mental health services for participants engaged in LA Family Housing programs.
Engages in discharge planning and leads care coordination activities
Utilizes Harm Reduction, Housing First, Low Barrier and Trauma Informed Care philosophies when working with individuals experiencing homelessness
Works collaboratively with medical providers to ensure PEH are triaged to needed medical care
Completes risk assessment and safety plan and liaise with Psychiatric Mobile Response Team (PMRT) if danger to self/others resulting from a mental health disorder or grave disability is suspected.
Follows mandated reporting guidelines with communication to protective and emergency services as needed; complete follow-up documentation as required, including incident reports
Advocates on participants' behalf with other organizations and/or government agencies when appropriate
Coordinate services with other non-clinical staff including:
Co-facilitating meetings
Organize participant mental health events
Provide guidance, direction, and clinical support through case consultations
Provide training for social services staff (in coordination with Supervisor)
Provides crisis intervention and conflict management techniques
Provides support with medication monitoring services, to help participants take medications correctly and promote healthy and wellness

What You're Skilled At

Behavioral Health Specialists (BHS) work with individuals, groups, and communities to improve mental health as a part of a treatment team. They provide rehabilitation focused on Intensive Home-Based Services (IHBS) and Intensive Care Coordination (ICC) including facilitation of Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings.
Qualifications:
BHS I - Bachelor's degree in related field.
BHS I - Two years related experience.
BHS II - Two-year's experience as a BHS I or Master of Arts or Master of Science degree from an accredited graduate program with major in SocialWork, Counseling, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, or other related degree required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, Word.
Knowledge of community resources preferred.

Participate in scheduled peer review.
Responsible for preventing and controlling infection.
Responsible for maintaining a culture of quality and safety.
Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.
Properly administer the C-SSRS to help prevent suicide.

Attend all required meetings and trainings.
Report any suspected child or dependent adult/elder abuse or neglect immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the administrative supervision of the Program Director or designee, this at-will direct service position is responsible for providing psychosocial, rehabilitation and recovery-oriented services for Turning Point members. This position also involves advocating for members in all areas of treatment and helping them apply for and receive services. Additional support in the areas of medication management, resource connection (e.g., housing resources, AOD, PCP, OP, etc.), counseling and advocacy will be provided as needed. Involves providing after hours, “on-call” coverage on a rotational basis based on program needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

Develops financial management plans for clients who receive Representative Payee Services and authorizes appropriate expenditures.
Interacts productively within the team in order to provide holistic case management services to an identified group of clients.
Provides “on-the-spot” counseling that is both helpful to the clients and consistent with the philosophy of the program.
Drives on program business using personal vehicle for the purposes of medication outreach, home visits, transporting clients to appointments/activities, community/county meetings/trainings, MH court.
Attends to the safety, health, and wellbeing of clients.
Completes paperwork as assigned in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through graduation from high school or an accredited GED program and four (4) years of varied experience as a provider of direct mental health services. Relevant higher education may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience.
OPTIMUM:
Graduation from a four (4) year university or college with a bachelor's degree in socialwork, psychology, or related field and two (2) years varied experience or four (4) years as a provider of direct mental health services or meeting other Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist qualifications.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
· California driver's license & current vehicle insurance/registration
· Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport inclusive of bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles.
