Provides mental health services to victims of crime served by the Children's Justice Center. Implements mental health best practice services to fulfill national accreditation standards. Participates in multidisciplinary team protocols to represent the best interest of child victims using a victim centered and trauma informed approach.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from accredited college or university in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling or other closely related field, and Licensed as a Certified Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Utah.
Preference given to those with at least four (4) years of experience in a child related setting, with one (1) year of experience working with child victims, and one (1) year of counseling experience with youth.
Required to successfully complete 40 hours of evidence-based trauma-informed training within six (6) months of hire according to national accreditation standards.
A valid Driver's license issues by the State of Utah is required to operate a vehicle.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must successfully pass a criminal background check as well as every two years thereafter and continuously meet the requirements of the Bureau of Criminal Information (BCI).

Maintains the program treatment provider linkage agreement partnerships with community based mental health agencies and collects required documentation to fulfill national accreditation standards.
Completes annual training and clinical supervision requirements for licensure and national accreditation standards.
Implements data entry, required documentation, and various reports.
Keeps manager informed and makes recommendations to improve mental health services.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily performed in a typical office environment, counseling settings, and child abuse investigation settings. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. CJC staff work regularly with clients in crisis situations and who have experienced significant trauma and abuse.

Essential Duties
Engages with youth in case plans or conversations with the intent to empower them in identifying and then making positive choices toward stability as well as assisting them in accessing emergency shelter.

Answers phones, greets clients, volunteers, donors, and other visitors in a friendly and professional manner and provides assistance as needed.

Qualifications
In addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENTS above, applicants must also meet the specialized experience (SE) requirements as described below. In order for you to qualify based on Specialized Experience (SE), you must possess the SE below for the various GS levels. Please ensure all specialized experience can be identified in your resume.
GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
* Experience interpreting federal laws, regulations and directives governing operations of employee assistance counseling programs.
* Experience providing short-term interventions and resources referral assistance to federal employees and their families seeking help with challenges related to mental health and/or substance abuse, emotional, gambling, marital, family relations, financial, work-related issues, stress, grief/loss or other personal problems.
* Experience providing educational material to the level and interests of the audience and experience leading lectures, training seminars, and discussion groups.
GS-13: In addition to the above, applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-12 level, as defined below:
* Experience providing diagnosing and treating a variety of psychological illnesses and personality disorders, dual diagnosis and maladaptive behaviors.
* Experience providing educational material to the level and interests of the audience and ability to communicate such material effectively in forums such as lectures, training seminars, and discussion groups.
Experience with consulting and advising management and healthcare professionals on complex employee performance and behavioral concerns and sensitive issues such as psychological, physiological and sociological aspects of alcoholism and other addictions and with the prevailing modes of treatment and rehabilitation.
Desired Skills
Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants. Desired Skills are:
GS-12: Two years of full time experience after obtaining license. (Two-five years of experience post independent licensure).
GS-13: One year of full time experience at the GS-13. (Five years of experience post independent licensure).
Education
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision of a certified school counselor, a counselor internship provides support to students in the instructional process with specific responsibility for providing course curriculum, support, information and recommendations to students and parents. Additionally, they assist in the development of goals and plans for growth, achievement, and well-being. School counseling interns assist school counselors in implementing a comprehensive school counseling program based on district goals and objectives. They assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a school's counseling program to meet the individual and diverse needs of all students through individual planning, guidance curriculum, and responsive services.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolled in an accredited master's level school counseling program.
Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communications skills; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathetic listening and persuasive speaking skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates and collaborates with teachers and other personnel, resource specialists and/or community (e.g. Courts, child protective services, etc.) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making recommendations.
Counsels students, parents, and guardians to enhance well-being and student success in school.
Develops a variety of programs for providing information to assist students in difficult situations and successful school transitions.
Monitors students' progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success.
Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Presents information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
Schedules student classes for the purpose of securing appropriate placement and meeting school, district, and/or State requirements.
Performs essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without posing a threat of harm to self or others.
