Work Expectations
A Mental Health Worker needs to be a good communicator, with both clients and staff. This includes having a high school level reading and writing skills, legible handwriting, ability to maintain information as highly confidential, telephone etiquette and customer service skills. Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Maintains an active License with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as a SocialWorker in the State of California and eligibility to serve as a field placement instructor and provide supervision of social work interns participating in the student training program. JOB PURPOSE:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
TRAINING PROGRAM:
Provides supervision to training program students, including social work trainees, as deemed appropriate and within supervision requirements to comply with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and Board of Psychology (BOP).
Serves as a field placement instructor responsible for supervision of MSW student/intern(s) participating in C&FC's student training program.
Work with each MSW trainee to develop a Learning Agreement that takes into account the educational assessment of the student, the education goals, core or advanced competencies, and the related practice behaviors of the student's School of Social Work. This serves as a guide for ongoing supervision, identifying learning opportunities, and for final evaluation.
Provides in-service training to psychology interns and practicum students on mental health topics, as required.
Participates in recruiting and screening psychology interns and practicum students.
Provides support with designing, implementing, and reviewing internship and practicum policies and procedures, as well as orientation, training, and supervision materials.
Coordinates development, tracking, announcement, and publication of training and related materials (e.g., policies and procedures).
Maintains training records in compliance with contractual obligations.
CLINICAL SERVICES:
Manage all information containing sensitive/confidential content with utmost discretion and adherence to all relevant policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality for all sensitive matters.
Meet position requirements regarding client service hours, both billable (for reimbursable services) and non-billable. Direct billable service time expectation is 13 hours per week.
Complete documentation and assignments within program timelines and Agency service standards.

Review and ask about other practitioners' involvement in the treatment of these high-risk conditions. Recommend immediate referral to such a specialist in case of need. Request the patient sign a waiver for release of information which will allow communication with the other practitioner in case of need (e.g., deterioration of the patient's condition).
Flag high-risk patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders, and Regional Clinical Leadership (RCL) and highlight the conditions concerned.
Refer such patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders or RCLs (Regional Clinical Leadership) based on the urgency, utilizing the informal Referral Policy or the scheduled Treatment Team/Case Conference session.
Review physician notes, following the Medical Directors or Physician Extenders' session with the patient, verifying that they noted and addressed the high-risk factor, or otherwise bring it immediately to the attention of the supervising counselor, as well as the clinic manager, until the matter's proper and professional handling by the physician or physician extender.
Advise, in writing, other staff members (including the clinic manager, supervising counselor, dispensing nurse and front office) of high-risk patients and their condition. Maintain and circulate minutes from treatment team/case conference sessions to the other staff members.
Provide professional counseling and referral services by:
Addressing patients' clinical and special needs by maintaining referrals to specialized (“second tier”) services rendered by physicians, physician extenders and counselors within Aegis, as well as referrals to Keys to Recovery (or other twelve-step) support groups, and other community resources (e.g., agencies and practitioners outside of Aegis), acting as a liaison to these agencies, as necessary.
Providing individual and group counseling as clinically necessary, to address the problem issues identified in the Initial Assessment and Treatment Plans. The counseling service will include protocols for the treatment of Relapse Prevention, Peer Pressure, Anger Management, Domestic Violence, Parenting, Family Preservation, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.
Utilizing advanced counseling techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, etc.
Scheduling regular counseling sessions with patients; issue patient appointment cards and record scheduled or rescheduled sessions in EHR scheduler.
Documenting counseling entries, including signature and date, as required by applicable federal and state regulations, CARF guidelines and Pinnacle policies.
Engaging in Community Relations and Outreach efforts.
Attending all recommended training including Physician Training of Counselors, RCL training, and case conferences with the program physicians and physician assistants.
Collecting research data when requested.
Observing the collection of patients' urine samples when required
Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required.

Qualifications:

The Pediatric Behavioral Health Interventionist (BHI) supports the implementation and coordination of the Collaborative Care for Youth Innovation grant. This position operates within a Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) and Primary Care Behavioral Model (PCBH), integrating behavioral health into pediatric and young adult primary care settings. The staff provides screening, assessment, brief intervention, care coordination, and referral for patients with behavioral, developmental, or psychosocial needs. The role emphasizes early identification, family-centered support, and seamless transitions to appropriate care across child, adolescent, and young adult populations (ages 0-26 years).
The BHI staff is a core member of the collaborative care team. As a member of this team, you will work closely with primary care providers (PCPs), medical staff, psychiatric Interventionists, and other behavioral health professionals at Community Memorial Health to deliver comprehensive care that integrates mental and physical health. This position is based in Community Memorial Healthcare's outpatient primary care clinics and does not include hospital or inpatient responsibilities.
