SHRM company history timeline

1948

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), formerly called the American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA), was founded in 1948 by a group of just 28 individuals.

After independence of India, the Factories Act, 1948 made it mandatory for the appointment of a labour welfare officer in every factory having 500 or more number of employees.

1949

In 1949, the first institute of industrial relation was started in India.

1950

The fifth phase started in 1950.

1960

In 1960, a Cornell University study found that a profession is defined by five characteristics:

1963

Lancaster SHRM was originally formed in 1963 as the Personnel Association.

1973

In 1973, based on the task force’s recommendations, the ASPA Accreditation Institute (AAI) was born.

1975

During 1975, the Government of India declared a state of emergency and took several administrative reforms to eradicate bonded labour and that gave way to bring the scheme of workers’ participation in Indian industries.

1980

In the year 1980 the professional bodies IIPM and NILM merged to form a single body, i.e.

1984

A more flexible model was developed by Beer and his associates (1984) at Harvard University.

1987

Guest (1987), asserts that the combination proposition which include strategic integration, high commitment, high quality and flexibility creates more effective organisations.

1989

SHRM Hawaii was first incorporated on September 13, 1989.

2004

The merger became effective on January 1, 2004.

2020
