Founded in 1903, SodaStream was created by George Gilbey, who also ran a famous London gin distiller bearing his name.
In 1920, Gilbey’s firm introduced its first flavored concentrates, cherry and sarsaparilla.
Then SodaStream released a new version of its product in 1979—deliberately colored brown and beige to go with popular kitchen color schemes at that time—that became more widely popular.
By 1989 the company's total turnover amounted to 15 million pounds, 12 million of which were derived from UK sales.
SodaStream is a worldwide company which was founded by Peter Wiseburgh a British born entrepreneur in 1991.
Once the company was established in 1996 they began setting up their main industrial park in Mishor Edomim.
In 1998, Soda-club acquires SodaStream, becoming the world’s largest home carbonation system.
In 1998 SodaStream was bought by Soda Club an Israeli company.
In 2007, an Israeli private equity firm, Fortissimo Capital, bought SodaStream for around $10 million and turned to a Nike executive, Daniel Birnbaum, to put some air into the aged firm.
America was the obvious first step, and Birnbaum talked retailers like Bloomingdale’s, Crate & Barrel and Williams-Sonoma into carrying a range of products that started at $80 and went up to $200. It went public in 2010 with revenue around $140 million.
