We're looking for an experienced Systems Software Engineer II to join Sunbelt Controls, a leading provider of Building Automation System (BAS) solutions across the Western U.S.
In this role, you'll develop and program databases, create custom graphics, and integrate control systems for smart buildings. You'll also support project startups, commissioning, and troubleshooting - working closely with project managers and engineers to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient building automation solutions.

⚙️ What You'll Do
Design and program BAS control system databases and graphics for assigned projects.

Why This Role Matters
As a Software Engineering Intern, you will help build the user interfaces and backend software systems that allow engineers, scientists and operators to run the fusion demonstration facility. You will work closely with controls engineers, scientists, and operators to developsoftware that presents real-time system state, manages configuration and data, and supports safe facility operations.
What You'll Do
Develop and improve web-based user interfaces for:
System status and health monitoring
Experiment or facility configuration
Alerts, events, and diagnostics
Assist in building backend services that:
Serve real-time and historical facility data
Manage configuration, metadata, and system state
Interface with controls systems and data pipelines
Support integration between:
UI applications, backend APIs, and facility systems
Write clear, maintainable code and contribute to code reviews
Help test, debug, and validate software used in live environments
What You Bring
Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Junior, Senior, or graduate student preferred)
Coursework or experience in:

Develop safety-critical software for the robot; you are responsible for contributing directly to surgery-ready software as an intern
Take ownership of a project that is integral to robot functioning from design to implementation under the guidance of a robot software team member
Jump on problems when they arise with a strong bias for action to support robot operation by non-software teams
Work across different engineering disciplines; your software may involve interactions with the mechanical, electrical, biological, and neuroscience teams
Required Qualifications:
Evidence of exceptional ability in engineering or computer science
Experience in writing performant applications in a system language like C, C++, and Rust
Ability to work on mission-critical and safety-critical systems
Strong bias for action and first principles thinking
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with robotics or high-reliability systems
Experience coding in Linux and debugging on Linux systems
Experience in computer vision
Experience in kinematics and motion planning
Experience working on medical robots
Experience working in a high-precision environment
