We are currently looking for an Oracle Solaris 11 System Administrator to join our growing team. This position will telecommute but may have the need to be onsite occasionally as needed in Silver Spring MD, Ashburn VA, or Fairmont WV. Strongly prefer candidates who are able to commute to these locations within four hours. Must be a U.S. citizen.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Three years as an Oracle Solaris Admin with one year of Oracle Solaris 11 required
- Experience with applying patches, debugging issues and building custom kernels as required to implement functionality or address security concerns.
- Proficiency in shell scripting with languages such as Python, Perl, Korn, Bourne/Bash.
- Solid understanding of the software development process including requirements, use cases, design, coding, documentation, and testing of scalable, distributed applications in a Solaris environment.
- Oracle Solaris System administration experience in configuration and policy.
- Experience with Network file systems (e.g., Lustre, NFS).
- Familiarity with automating approaches to configuring and maintaining (e.g., patching) systems.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good organization skills to balance and prioritize work, and ability to multitask.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install new software releases (Oracle Solaris 11), system upgrades, operating system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolve software related problems.
- Perform system backups and recovery. Maintain data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. Provide configuration management, hardware management, operating system and system software support, and platform operations support for all hosts. Install, setup, configure, troubleshoot, and administer new and existing backup software and infrastructure (e.g.: EMC Networker).
- Provide on-call (e.g., pager or cell phone) application server administration support 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Provide Tier 2 and 3 user support to users. Respond to all calls or system notifications within time specified by service level agreements (SLA). Record off-hour calls and responses using the problem management system no later than the next business day.
- Install, setup, configure, troubleshoot and administer new and existing physical and virtual Solaris servers.
- Install, setup, configure, troubleshoot and administer new and existing virtualization platforms following industry recommended and Government established procedures and protocols for Oracle Solaris Virtualization (Physical and logical domains, Kernel Zones).
- Install, setup, configure, troubleshoot and administer new and existing Apache Tomcat and Oracle Application servers that provide and support web based services and applications. Aid software developers during application development, implementation, and support on matters related to the Application Server software.
- Perform installation, configuration and management of Government Off The Shelf (GOTS), Commercial Of The Shelf (COTS) and all custom-built applications. Apply Application Server software patches (e.g.: JDK) as scheduled with government concurrence. Configure and deploy applications at the request of application owners ensuring all services are in alignment with Government standards and industry best practices.
- Assist in the update, creation and implementation of a Standard Operating Procedure.
Maintain and update as necessary documentation (Visio Diagrams) of logical and physical connections
- Utilize experience in supporting storage technology planning, performance capacity planning and modeling, applications planning, human factors issues, and distributed processing.
- Install physical server, storage, network and appliance hardware devices into racks. Work with hardware vendors to schedule and implement deploys of new hardware and resolution of hardware related repairs. Ensure that property custodians are provided complete and accurate inventory information on equipment supported.
- Provision and administer SSL implementations using RSA/DSA keys. Experience in Authentication systems integration (HSPD12 and RSA tokens/RADIUS). Manage SSL Certificate from certificate request created to certificate approval and deployment.
EDUCATION
- BS/BA degree in a related area (or equivalent), and 6 to 8 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
