A minimum of 3 years of administrative management experience.
Valid driver's license and clear driving record.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Train and supervise deck team in docking, anchoring, watch duties, safety, routine ship and inflatable maintenance, cleaning and maintaining deck, and superstructure.
Direct the deck team and handle communications between bridge, crew, and dock personnel during docking procedures.
Evaluate and document the performance of the deck team, reward and discipline employees, address complaints and resolve problems.
Maintain professional demeanor with guests, crew, staff, agents, officials, and the public. Participate in guest activities as directed by the Captain.
Assume command of the ship in the event the Captain becomes incapacitated.
Inspect the vessel for overall cleanliness, including engine room, deck areas, crew quarters, windows, and exterior hull.
Maintain deck supply inventories and requisitions.
Act as vessel security officer.
Prepare vessel for and attend all U.S. Coast Guard annual dry docks and inspections.
Review and update watch and duty work lists.
Assist the Master in communicating and enforcing all company policies and procedures.
Watch Duty:
Assume responsibility for bridge navigation and deck watch during specified periods. Determine geographical position of the ship, using all available means such as GPS, radar ranges, visual observations, depth sounders, etc.
Make necessary entries in navigation and radio logs.
Handle the vessel (as directed by the Captain) in docking, anchoring, piloting, en route, in close quarters and open sea conditions.
Navigate vessel to ensure avoidance of marine hazards such as reefs, outlying shoals, shallow waters, etc. using aids to navigation such as lights, lighthouses, and buoys.
Small Boat Operations:
Drive inflatable boats as needed.
Assist with loading guests, staff, and crew in and out of inflatable boats.
Safety and Security:
Follow company safety and pollution prevention policies and procedures and request supervisory assistance/guidance when necessary.
Direct crew in emergency drills. Conduct onboard safety training and drills as directed by the Captain, including fire, abandon ship, man overboard, flooding and medical emergencies.
Perform gangway watch as directed by the duty schedule.
Act as vessel Medical Officer; maintain first aid kits and medical supplies on board as well as filling out all guest, crew and staff injury/illness reports. Assist Captain with treating injured/ill guests and crew. Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazards. Contact emergency services when required.
Maintain and administer vessel Preventive Maintenance Plan and Safety Training Program.
Oversee vessel hazard communications program and related training, including Material Safety Data Sheets and utilization of personal protective equipment.
Participate in shore side training as required by the company.
Ensure compliance with the company Safety Management System including Emergency Response Activities; report non-conformities to vessel master and appropriate shore-side personnel.
WORK SCHEDULE
Daily 12-hour shifts are comprised of approximately two 4-hour watches, plus 4 hours of administrative and supervisory activities. However, each workday may vary depending on overall needs of the vessel and/or vessel personnel. This position may require overnight and/or night shift hours.
ONBOARD ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Living Conditions-
Crew live in close quarters with 4 to 8 people of all genders per room depending on the vessel. Having your own room is not an option due to limited berthing.
Length of Work Shift-
Physically able to work 12 hours per day, 7 days a week for 6 to 8 weeks at a time. Rotations off the vessel are usually 2 to 3 weeks.
Mobility-
Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, kneeling, crawling, and pushing/pulling. Must ascend and descend stairs and ladders, sometimes while carrying tools or objects. Able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
Handling/Strength-
Able to handle, lift, and lower objects totaling 50 pounds between the ground/deck level to a height of about 4 to 6 feet, and able to repeat these movements. Able to carry these objects up to 100 feet continuously for 20 minutes.
Environmental Conditions-
Able to work in all weather conditions, around loud noise, in small spaces, and fit through a 28-inch wide hatch.

Job Responsibilities
Vessel & Passenger Safety & Operations
Assist the Captain and senior crew in all vessel readiness tasks (pre-departure safety checks, engine/jet fluid checks, ensuring safety equipment is functional, etc.).
Help with passenger boarding and disembarking safely manage lines, gangways, and passenger flow. Provide safety instructions or orientation as required.
Maintain knowledge of all safety gear and emergency procedures; respond appropriately in case of emergencies or incidents.
Assist with routine in-voyage vessel operations: engine room/jet checks, deck maintenance, cleanliness of cabins, decks, galley, and passenger areas.
Guest Service, Interpretation & Experience Support
Greet and assist guests with courtesy, help them find good viewing spots (inside heated cabin or on open deck), answer basic questions or direct them to the designated on-board naturalist or ranger.
Help facilitate a comfortable environment: assist with serving lunch/beverages if needed, help with logistics for meal service or refreshments (given that lunch and beverages are included on the Day Tour).
Support safe and respectful wildlife and glacier viewing: monitor guest behavior, assist guests with binoculars or viewing guidance, ensure safe distances are maintained, and follow all park and vessel regulations regarding wildlife and environmental protection.
Assist with food and beverage service during the tour, including meal setup, distribution, cleanup, and maintaining sanitary practices.
Maintain a clean galley and service area in compliance with health and safety requirements.
Must obtain an Alaska Food Worker (Food Handlers) Card.
Deck & Vessel Maintenance
Assist with vessel fueling following all safety guidelines, spill-prevention procedures, and environmental regulations.
Ensure fuel logs are completed accurately and report any irregularities or concerns to the Captain or Marine Operations team.
Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the vessel: keep decks, railings, windows, cabin areas, and restrooms clean.
Perform basic maintenance tasks or assist technical crew under supervision (e.g., helping with small repairs, checking equipment, assisting in vessel preparation for next voyage).
Assist as-needed with loading/unloading gear, passenger luggage, kayaks or camper gear for shore-drop services (if offered), and managing boarding ramps and safety gear. Some tours include camper/kayak drop-off/pick-up.
Compliance & Record-Keeping
Adhere to all company, Coast Guard, and National Park Service regulations governing vessel operations, wildlife viewing, safety, and environmental stewardship.
Assist in maintaining logs of vessel operations, safety checks, passenger counts, incident reports, maintenance records, and other required documentation.
Support a professional, guest-first culture; maintain confidentiality and integrity when handling guest or operational issues.
Qualifications
Prior experience working on passenger vessels, commercial boats, or similar marine/boating work preferred. Basic seamanship and mechanical aptitude are a plus.
Comfortable working outdoors in marine conditions, changing Alaskan weather, and possibly long hours.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to interact with guests from diverse backgrounds in a respectful and helpful manner.
Capable of performing physical tasks including moving gear, assisting with lines, maintaining vessel upkeep, and standing for extended periods.
Comfortable working as part of a team in a remote national park environment.
Willingness to follow strict safety and environmental protocols required by park regulations and concession contract.
Work Environment & Schedule
Work aboard a high-speed catamaran day tour vessel - enclosed heated cabin with large viewing windows and exterior deck space, exposed to coastal weather and marine conditions.
Tour schedule typically runs daily during the season: early morning departures, full-day tours (approximately eight hours), with potential for early starts and variable shifts depending on vessel schedule, weather, and passenger loads.
Must abide by vessel safety regulations, be prepared for early mornings/late returns, and remain flexible regarding hours depending on operational needs, weather changes, or special trips.

Job Description
RESPEC has an opening for a temporary part-time water resources intern in the Water Division in our Anchorage, AK office. The intern will be expected to work 40 hours a week during the summer, working alongside and receiving mentorship from a licensed engineer. This position does not offer remote work.
This position involves work tasks that support planning, designing, and constructing various water resources engineering projects. These projects may include work in the fields of stormwater, water and wastewater, and regulatory compliance. Interdisciplinary work with environmental science and transportation staff may also occur. Work responsibilities and activities may include:
Hydrologic/hydraulic analyses, calculations, and design
Application of standard engineering techniques and procedures
Preparation of reports, figures, and technical documents
Computer-aided design/drafting (AutoCAD)
GIS analysis
Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional engineer or project manager
Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through internship program
Perform limited field work as required by current project load
Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor of science degree program in civil or water resources engineering

JOB SUMMARY
The 2nd Mate is considered the Navigation Officer. The 2nd Mate is responsible for maintaining the bridge navigational and communications equipment as well as assisting with the vessel's piloting, navigation, safe route planning, maintaining charts and publications, small boat operations, and general caretaking of the bridge and bridge equipment. The 2nd Mate reports to the Captain and will assist the Master in communicating and enforcing all company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Watch Duty:
Perform bridge navigation and deck watch during specified periods. Determines geographical position of the ship, using all available means such as GPS, radar ranges, visual observations, depth sounders, etc.
Make necessary entries in navigation and radio logs.
Handle the vessel, as directed by the Captain, in docking, anchoring, piloting, en route, in close quarters and open sea conditions.
Navigate vessel to ensure avoidance of marine hazards such as reefs, outlying shoals, shallow waters, etc. using aids to navigation such as lights, lighthouses, and buoys.
While on watch the 2nd Mate is the Officer of the Watch, and should direct the deck staff as needed.
Safety and Security:
Participate in on board safety training, meetings and drills, as directed by the Captain, including fire, abandon ship, man overboard, flooding and medical emergencies.
Participate in shore side training as required by the company.
Relieve and/or perform gangway watch as directed by the duty schedule.
Maintain familiarity with all duties under the company Safety Management System including Emergency Response Activities.
Small Boat Operations:
Drive inflatable boats as necessary.
Assist with loading guests, staff, and crew in and out of inflatable boats.
Administrative:
Maintain navigation bridge supply inventories and requisitions.
Perform chart and publication corrections and maintain vessel's chart inventory.
Post daily sunrise/sunset times and tide and current information.
Create Voyage Plan waypoint spreadsheet for Captain's review and approval. Enter voyage itinerary waypoints into GPS.
Maintain hard copies of all external and shipboard training for each employee onboard.
WORK SCHEDULE
The 2nd Mate works 12 hours per day of varied hours; two 4-hour watches per day plus 4 hours of administrative or small boat activities. However, each workday may vary depending on overall needs of the vessel and/or vessel personnel. This position is likely to require overnight and/or night shift hours.
ONBOARD ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Living Conditions-
Crew live in close quarters with 4 to 8 people of all genders per room depending on the vessel. Having your own room is not an option due to limited berthing.
Length of Work Shift-
Physically able to work 12 hours per day, 7 days a week for 6 to 8 weeks at a time. Rotations off the vessel are usually 2 to 3 weeks.
Mobility-
Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, kneeling, crawling, and pushing/pulling. Must ascend and descend stairs and ladders, sometimes while carrying tools or objects. Able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
Handling/Strength-
Able to handle, lift, and lower objects totaling 50 pounds between the ground/deck level to a height of about 4 to 6 feet, and able to repeat these movements. Able to carry these objects up to 100 feet continuously for 20 minutes.
Environmental Conditions-
Able to work in all weather conditions, around loud noise, in small spaces, and fit through a 28-inch wide hatch.
