Summary
Solidarity Center seeks an experienced Director / Assistant Director of Resource Development to play a critical role in building the future of the organization.The individual who is selected for this role will lead the Solidarity Centers efforts in private fundraising, with primary responsibility for meeting its private fundraising goals. These efforts will help secure the funding that is essential for grassroots labor movements to build power around the world.
This position will shape an organization-wide private fundraising program to raise unrestricted and restricted funds from individual donors, private foundations, and other relevant philanthropic entities to advance the Solidarity Center's mission. In partnership with the Executive Director and designated program directors, the Resource Development Director / Assistant Director will develop and execute campaign and fundraising strategies for the Solidarity Center. A main goal of this position is to build an organization-wide approach to private fundraising and diversify revenue streams.
The Director / Assistant Director of Resource Development will ensure that Solidarity Centers private fundraising efforts are aligned with the organizations mission and strategy; therefore a social justice orientation and a strong belief in the power of labor movements to transform societies is critical for success.
The Director / Assistant Director of Resource Development will collaborate with program teams to develop strategies that generate new funding from private sourcesto support Solidarity Center's work. This position will provide strategic coaching and guidance to program staff on foundation proposals, budgets, reports and other interactions with private donors to ensure that programs are effectively articulated and aligned with Solidarity Centers strategy and goals for diversified funding. In addition, the Director / Assistant Director of Resource Development will be tasked with expanding staff knowledge and capacity around fundraising. An important aspect of this responsibility will be developing and/or introducing information, tools, and resources relevant to raising funds from private sources.
The Director / Assistant Director of Resource Development, in conjunction with the Executive Director, represents Solidarity Center with private donors in the U.S. and abroad and serves as the organizations spokesperson and point of contact on matters of fundraising. This includes speaking at donor conferences and meeting with foundation staff and high net-worth individuals.
This position will report directly to the Executive Director, working across departments to achieve Solidarity Centers private fundraising goals. While the position has no direct reports at this time, as revenue streams are further developed, additional staff will be considered. The decision of whether to hire at a Director of Assistant Director level will be based on the applicant's qualifications and level of experience.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated success creating and meeting fundraising goals and budgets
Experience developing, executing, and leading fundraising campaigns
Demonstrated history and successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors and foundations
Ability to operate independently, with excellent decision-making skills, sound judgement, a strong sense of initiative, and high self-motivation
Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines in the absence of direct supervision
Demonstrated flexibility and openness in responding to changing work priorities
Experience building partnerships with major donors, including coordinating executive outreach, ensuring appropriate follow-up, and managing cultivation calendars and scheduling
Experience designing and delivering training that is engaging and inspiring
Experience conducting research on foundations and individual donors; fundraising database experience preferred
Experience drafting, reviewing, and/or advancing high quality fundraising proposals
A strong commitment to the Solidarity Centers mission; previous experience in trade unions is highly desirable
Exceptional writing and public speaking skills, with the ability to craft successful development outreach materials and to communicate a compelling vision of our work
Ability to lead and build support among partners and peers
Advanced expertise in nonprofit fundraising and development, including demonstrated knowledge of national philanthropic communities, with ten years of directly relevant professional experience
Extensive knowledge of international relations and of socio-economic and political developments in the U.S. and abroad
Familiarity with non-US government fundraising opportunities
Proficiency in Microsoft products. Experience with donor management software and philanthropic research tools
Strong attention to detail
Fluency in a foreign language (desirable but not required)
Specific Duties:
Immediate priority to develop a comprehensive strategy to meet initial fundraising goal, as well as 3-5 year projections with outlined strategies to achieve
Set strategy for new revenue streams, including private philanthropy, individual donors and other relevant philanthropic entities
Set fundraising priorities with the Executive Team
Provide senior-level strategy and thought partnership
Drive the overall fundraising program
Serve as external relationships manager for all development relationships
Lead coordination of fundraising activities and systems cross-functionally between development and other SC teams
Provide overall project management
Provide coaching support for staff around all aspects of fundraising
Develop and implement donor communications/engagement opportunities
Develop fundraising messaging and materials, in coordination with Communications staff and program plans
Identify prospects, oversee vetting process, and build prospect pipeline
Manage stewardship of donors and prospects
Work with staff to draft concept notes, proposals and reports; review and provide final approval for submission
Focus on immediate fundraising needs
Develop systems to support new revenue streams
Expand the development team as resources are available and supervise its staff
Manage the volunteer staff Resource Development Committee
Support the Executive Director with all aspects of their fundraising activities and responsibilities
Develop and prepare materials for Board of Trustee meetings and monitor fundraising progress against goals
Provide regular reports to the Executive Team
Advise the Director of Finance on donor compliance strategies and methods, including the review of bylaws and other founding documents
Ensure that all development policies and procedures are consistent with established organizational policies and that they satisfy compliance requirements and related audit standards
Work cross-departmentally with relevant staff to prepare budgets and financial reports
Facilitate a team approach to fundraising and foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization
Advise regional and thematic departments on identifying organizational and project-specific funding opportunities and ensure that fundraising aligns with relevant Solidarity Center standards and best practices
Develop and maintain a donor tracking and engagement system in compliance with IRS regulation.
Ensure that established systems are followed for donor acknowledgement, recordkeeping, and recognition
Oversee strategy for donor database and tracking of donors in other organization data management systems
Perform other related duties as assigned
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.
This is a management role, generously compensated with a gross annual salary of approximately $169,000 - $181,000 USD, based on experience. A robust benefits package includes fully paid health insurance, a retirement plan and pension, life insurance, and ample paid time off for holidays, vacation, and medical leave. Pre-tax deduction programs are also available for commuting, dependent care, and health care expenses. In addition, we offer opportunities and funds for professional development.

Key Responsibilities
Manage the CEO's complex calendar, including domestic and international in-person and virtual meetings across multiple time zones;

The Opportunity
ERA is looking for an Attorney/Counsel with proven litigation experience in employment law and in the civil rights space. As a Senior Counsel or Senior Staff Attorney, you will be responsible for engaging in all aspects of impact and individual litigation, developing new cases for litigation, assisting in crafting litigation strategy, drafting and reviewing amicus briefs, and developing and maintaining litigation relationships to advance ERA's mission. You may also be involved in defending against threats to the civil rights of workers and students. The Senior Counsel or Senior Staff Attorney will report to ERA's Director of Litigation.
Primary Responsibilities
Conduct cutting-edge impact and individual litigation, including legal research; investigating facts, working with clients; drafting pleadings, briefs and legal memoranda; engaging in discovery and motion practice; and conducting evidentiary hearings and oral arguments in court.
Identify and develop new matters for litigation by conducting factual, legal and strategic analyses and formulating relevant theories and materials.
Draft amicus briefs and review amicus briefs drafted by others for possible ERA involvement.
Develop collaborative partnerships with other advocacy groups, legal services providers, plaintiffs' attorneys, law firms, and other partners by participating in task forces and coalitions, attending conferences, and co-counseling lawsuits.
Provide legal and strategy analysis, technical assistance, and thought leadership on substantive issues related to ERA's mission to attorneys, government agencies, officials and staff, the media, worker and student organizations, and grassroots advocates when called upon by ERA leadership, departments, and programs.
Assist in supervision of law student interns and provide occasional assistance to attorney fellow, as needed.
Review public-facing legal training materials, resources, self-help tools, and “Know Your Rights” materials.
Work closely with ERA's legal and non-legal program staff to develop and implement communication strategies that promote and magnify the impact of ERA's legal work.
Assist ERA's development team in drafting applications or reporting on grants that support the organization's legal work, as needed.
Occasional travel, as needed, for litigation, meetings, conferences, and other advocacy or professional development activities.
Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned by ERA supervisory staff.
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications:
J.D. and at least one active bar membership;
A minimum of four (4) years of post-J.D. litigation experience, including drafting case documents and engaging in discovery and motions practice, including at least 3 years of experience litigating employment discrimination cases;
Demonstrated commitment to social, gender, and racial justice with a passion for achieving equity and economic justice for women, girls, and/or LGBTQI+ people;
Outstanding research, writing, and analytical skills;
Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team;
Excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to give and receive feedback and resolve conflicts constructively;
Ability to travel to ERA's headquarters in San Francisco three or four times per year, if working remotely, and to travel occasionally as needed for litigation, meetings or conferences.
The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of the following professional and personal skills and attributes:
Experience engaging in legal advocacy on subjects related to ERA's mission, such as defending and expanding employment and education-related civil rights, protecting and advancing women's economic security, racial justice or immigrant rights, and/or combating gender-based violence;
Experience collaborating with progressive nonprofit organizations and/or plaintiff-side employment lawyers;
Experience working directly with clients from diverse backgrounds and populations, including communities of color, low-wage workers, immigrants, and/or LGBTQI+ individuals;
A high degree of self-motivation and initiative, with the ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines under time pressure;
Experience working on a team and setting and fostering a collaborative approach to case work and other advocacy efforts;
Experience with policy advocacy and/or communications work related to litigation preferred but not required.

Compensation & Benefits
This position has a salary range of $85,000 - $125,000. The salary and job title (Senior Staff Attorney vs. Senior Counsel) will be determined based on years of experience and expertise.

For attorneys located in the Bay Area in California, the position is a hybrid position, requiring 2 days per week in the San Francisco office. Employment and labor relations - 20%
Provide strategic advice on all employment law matters, including advising on personnel policies, employee relations, disciplinary actions, workplace issues, and compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
Provide strategic advice on labor relations matters to include contract negotiations and collective bargaining agreement interpretation, and provide oversight of the grievance process.
Work closely with the HR team and other internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to the collective bargaining agreement.
Business advice - 20%
Provide advice to the executive team and BOD as needed, regarding legally sensitive communications, litigation and administrative action strategies, risk analysis, mitigation strategies, liability and insurance.
Promote and defend Indivisible's interests before courts, administrative agencies, and policymakers, and regularly report and provide strategic guidance on legal developments that could affect operations.
Review, draft and advise on contracts, leases, grant agreements, job descriptions, and other documents.
Monitor legal development in a wide range of legal areas, including elections and nonprofit law.
Protect Indivisible's intellectual property interests.
Oversee corporate governance issues for multiple Boards.
Programmatic support - 20%
Consult with programmatic leadership to develop legal frameworks to support programmatic work.
Develop strong connections to cross-functional teams.
Anticipate need and coordinate the development of training materials on a variety of legal issues.
Effectively communicate complex legal issues to non-legal stakeholders.
Legal oversight on financial compliance - 10%
Review development proposals and reports for legal compliance and advise on contribution restrictions.
Support compliance on financial report requirements to include reviewing Indivisible's draft 990s.
Supervise external and internal legal counsel and compliance staff 10%
Manage and mentor the legal team.
Oversee relationships with outside counsel. Liaise at the confluence of law, organizational risk, programmatic objectives. Translate organizational risk, history, objectives.
Other duties as assigned Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, bar membership in good standing in any jurisdiction with a preference for DC.
10 years legal experience in the nonprofit sector, to include 3-5 years of senior leadership, required.
5-7 years of employment law and labor management experience providing legal guidance in a unionized workplace to include contract negotiation and interpretation experience.
Proven track record for managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, collaborative problem solving, and exceptional strategic thinking.
Exceptional judgment and discretion.
Legal acumen supportive of programmatic and political agility.
Thrive in high-volume problem-solving in a fast-paced landscape.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent written and verbal skills, strong attention to detail.
Desired Qualifications:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Meetings and Travel Department (M&T) manages all contracts, planning, and logistics for the Federation's meetings, events, and travel arrangements, continuously focusing on maximizing value and efficiencies, minimizing cost and oversights, and revising processes and procedures. M&T plans and assists with approximately 100 meetings, trainings, and ancillary event activities annually.
This position will report to the Director of Meetings and Travel.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide administrative support to the Director and Deputy Director;
Coordinate all aspects of room reservations, including booking, tracking, managing extensive changes, being the liaison with the hotel and monitoring room block quota;
Work directly with hotels to negotiate extended stay room rates and concessions;
Research and compare hotel rates in different cities where staff are assigned, and maintain a detailed hotel negotiated rate list as a resource for staff and affiliates;
Arrange direct billing, reconcile hotel folios and invoices and resolve billing issues;
Train staff on travel booking site, assist staff with booking flights, hotels, trains and rental cars, maintain user account lists and status of union hotels;
Coordinate ground transportation (buses, vans, shuttles) for events and meetings, including booking and processing of bills;
Act as a liaison with other departments and affiliates;
Serve as a backup reconciling department's credit card accounts, prepare supporting documentation, resolve discrepancies, process charges for departments' signatures, and scan and archive reports;
Utilize the Internet as a basic research tool for information gathering;
Prepare responses to inquiries and other correspondence, pro-actively gather information for decision-making and advance work through follow-up and outreach;
Understand, and be able to communicate, the function of the AFL-CIO to both the internal and external audiences;
Process incoming correspondence and materials;
Screen, manage and prioritize visitors, calls and mail;
Maintain office supplies;
Other duties as assigned.

The Senior Organizer Trainer will be responsible for leading in-person and/or online OI Trainings at all levels (beginner, advanced, and lead). DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Assist in developing training curricula, which include (in-person & virtual) the OI 3-Day Trainings; OI Trainer Academy (Train-the-Trainer); Campaign/Union Specific Training; field organizer trainings; and OI Advanced & Lead Organizer Trainings to advance the goals of the OI Program.
Participate in affiliate organizing campaigns in order to provide training and development of current and potential affiliate staff.
Mentor and train all levels of organizing staff, including new recruits, volunteer members, staff organizers, and campaign leads.
Evaluate organizers for all Organizing Institute training programs.
Represent the interests of the AFL-CIO, the Economic Power & Growth Hub, and the Organizing Institute with all allied organizations.
Represent and recruit for the OI in all external forums as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Experience in the labor movement, including a minimum of six years of union organizing and lead campaign experience. Both public and private sector experience is preferred.

The National Campaign Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of assigned campaigns. Review with appropriate Political and Field Mobilization hub and Federation staff all aspects of each campaign plan and provide the necessary strategic context to staff implementing each campaign;
Regularly report on progress of the campaign, and lead the charge for overcoming obstacles to ensure goals and objectives are met;
Write and/or work with appropriate departments to prepare campaign materials;
Coordinate with the appropriate Federation staff on the development of strategic alliances with labor and community allies in support of campaign objectives;
Develop post-campaign debriefs and assessments;
Coordinate AFL-CIO participation in Washington, DC mobilizations;
Keep the National Campaign Director fully informed on a regular basis regarding issues that affect departmental or Federation objectives;
Prepare and submit regular and ad hoc reports as requested;
Function as a lead for assigned national and local campaigns and with the Unity Table;
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of seven years of campaign experience coordinating all aspects of a campaign, including demonstrated success as a campaign manager;
Extensive knowledge of and experience with national, state, and local structures of the labor movement;
Strong working knowledge of federal and state legislative processes;
Demonstrated ability to write and implement all elements of campaign plans;
A track record of being detail-oriented with good organizational skills and follow-through, including the quantitative tracking of campaign metrics and progress to goals;
Experience managing a campaign on behalf of a labor union;
