Responsibilities:

Required Skills and Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in enterprise IT architecture, preferably within federal or DoD environments.
Strong understanding of DoD security postures, including NIST, RMF, and STIG compliance.
Hands-on experience with both on-prem infrastructure and cloud platforms (e.g., VMware, Azure, AWS).
Familiarity with automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines).
Ability to scope and evaluate technologies based on mission needs, budget, and security requirements.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into strategic outcomes.
Cleared individual for a government Secret Clearance.
Preferred Required Skill and Experience
Certifications such as AWS SolutionsArchitect, Azure Architect, CISSP, or DoD 8570-compliant credentials.
Experience working directly with government leadership or senior military officials.
Background in systems engineering or software development is a plus.

The Enterprise Architect leads and oversees all enterprise engineering initiatives supporting Department of State's systems across domestic data centers and overseas posts. This role provides technical leadership for physical and virtual hosting environments; including Windows, UNIX/Linux, IaaS, PaaS, and software‑defined infrastructure, and plays a critical part in designing resilient, redundant, and scalable architectures. Responsible for engineering services, technical planning, and implementation activities supporting DoS's global infrastructure, ensuring secure and reliable operations while guiding cloud transition efforts and modernization strategies. This position requires strong leadership of a large engineering and operations staff and extensive experience delivering enterprise‑scale infrastructure solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and manage an engineering team responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining physical and virtual hosting environments across domestic and overseas locations.
Provide engineering services for Windows and UNIX/Linux servers, hypervisors, converged infrastructure, IaaS/PaaS platforms, and cloud‑transition architectures.
Oversee enterprise‑wide engineering and implementation of LAN and data center configurations, including network integration with Department of State (DoS) managed environments.
Develop operational designs for mission‑critical systems, ensuring resilience, redundancy, disaster recovery capability, and cross‑data‑center failover (active/active and active/passive).
Plan, prioritize, and execute multiple engineering projects in parallel while maintaining alignment with production operations.
Manage the implementation of technical changes, design enhancements, and process improvements in highly complex enterprise environments.
Collaborate with architects, developers, operations teams, and customer stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into actionable engineering solutions.
Support the transition of applications/systems into cloud environments and hybrid architectures.
Develop detailed project plans, engineering design documents, and implement roadmaps for new capabilities, features, or infrastructure solutions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Active Top Secret (TS) clearance.
Master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Management or a related field and 15+ years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience managing the implementation of technical and process changes in complex enterprise infrastructure environments.
Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, developers, and operations personnel, to gather requirements and design infrastructure capabilities.
Demonstrated experience planning, prioritizing, and successfully delivering multiple concurrent engineering projects in coordination with production operations.
Experience engineering solutions in both cloud and on‑premises environments, including hybrid architectures and cloud transition strategies.
Experience supporting the transition of systems/applications into cloud hosting environments (IaaS/PaaS/hybrid).
Strong experience designing resilient architectures with redundancy, automated failover, disaster recovery, and multi‑site hosting capabilities.
Expertise with Windows and UNIX/Linux server platforms, virtualization technologies, networking, and enterprise storage.
Experience developing technical project plans, engineering documentation, and implementation designs.

What You Will Do:
The NIH Account Technology SolutionsArchitect will serve as the senior technical leader supporting our NIH-focused programs and pursuits. What You Will Need:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
10+ years of experience in technology solution design, with at least 5 years supporting NIH.

Strong relationships with NIH technology stakeholders and a reputation for trusted delivery.
