Job Description
Overall Purpose and Objective of Position
Supervise and coordinate activities of workers concerned with receiving, storing, inventorying, weighing, sampling and shipping materials in warehouse or yard.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Plan layout of warehouse and storage area.
Advises employees: on care and preservation of items received, stored and shipped of methods and use of equipment on company policies and safety regulations on duty assignments, performance
Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite workflow. Issue written and oral instructions. Assigns duties, standardizes procedures to improve efficiency.
Review records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures. Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates. Suggest changes to increase efficiency of department.
Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of departments.
Operate lift truck.
Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to.
Ensures employees are provided required training for area and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work.
Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner.
Promptly reports unsafe working conditions to management and communicates potential hazards to affected employees.
Promptly reports all incidents to management and conducts incident investigation as soon as practicable; no later than 24 hours from time of incident.
Perform all related responsibilities as required.
Scan bales to ensure accurate and efficient work procedures and data exchange utilizing tablets and scanners.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

One to three years related experience and/or training. Or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of supervisors or employees, and apply common sense and problem solving.
Computer skills, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Job requirements include standing, walking, sitting, use of hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools or controls. Must be able to reach with hands and arms; climb balance, stoop, kneel crouch and crawl. Also have the ability to speak and hear.
Required to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities are required. These include good close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision. Good depth perception and the ability to focus are necessary.
Working Conditions
Duties are performed in outside weather conditions, working frequently near moving mechanical parts. Occasional work done in high, precarious places and could be exposed to fumes and cotton dust.

Job Summary:
The Shipping/Receiving Supervisor is responsible for shipping accurate counts of product to customers in a timely manner using the safest and quickest methods and identifying product that is received for damage and keeping accurate counts.
Essential Functions:
1. Supervises the effective operations of the department by:
Managing all drivers and shipping personnel.
Motivating personnel to optimize efficiencies.
Fostering a teamwork atmosphere within the department.
Training shipping personnel in proper packaging, washing, handling, and quality control procedures.
Maintaining shipping/receiving equipment by routine and preventative maintenance.
Instructing all forklift operators and drivers on the proper operations of equipment as well as safety measures.
Preparing, evaluating, and monitoring assigned personnel on performance evaluations, job descriptions, and on-going training needs.
Administering progressive discipline where needed.
2. Supervises the effective flow of incoming and outgoing material by:
Selecting the most effective and efficient packaging methods.
Minimizing packaging costs.
Assuring proper paperwork accompanies shipments and any outside processes
Making sure all outside processes are properly signed out with accurate counts before leaving the plant, and signed back in when returning to SGW.
Understanding all paperwork and the importance of being complete and accurate.
Using the Visual system for inventory transactions, packing slips, and OSP (where applicable)
Making appropriate shipping labels and/or packing slips of outgoing customer shipments
Following up and completing daily paperwork.
3. Conducts an effective inventory management program by:
Maintaining accurate inventory records in the Visual system.
Reviewing slow moving inventory in finished goods
Establishing safety stock and Kanbans for specific customers.
4. Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by:
Fully enforcing all ISO and company policies, procedures, and work instructions
Fostering a continuous improvement philosophy
Communicating with QA department for training needs, policy adjustments, and rework instructions.
Striving to reduce departmental expenses
Assuring and maintaining a safe work environment
Recommending major maintenance needed in advance, whenever possible, to reduce departmental downtime.
Requesting purchases of appropriate packaging for upcoming jobs as well as replacement packaging for the existing jobs, in advance, to keep from substituting material.
5. Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company by:
Supporting all decisions made by the production team
Achieving goals established with Production Manager
Staying in touch with current technology and manufacturing processes through continuing education

One or two years of college or technical school certification, or equivalent experience in gear industry
Communication skills

· Arrives to work on time, as scheduled, and follows the company attendance policy
· Reads and interprets variable customer requirements on pick list notes to process outgoing orders with accuracy in quantity, material and destination
· Cycle counts balance of orders after picking
· Packages resale items as directed by pick lists
· Prepares and includes proper documentation for shipments per customer and/or U.S. customs requirements
· Presents completed daily pick lists and required shipping forms to Accounting Dept. for customer invoicing and indexing
· Inventories resale items according to proper location following first-in, first-out (FIFO) accounting procedure
· Unloads incoming materials; reconciles bills of lading, verifies materials & quantity received with PO and labels every part with a count, inputs received material into the ERP system
· Reviews incoming material, segregates damaged material when necessary, and informs supervisors of variances
· Completes housekeeping activities in warehouse areas
· Operates material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner for order picking, loading and unloading trucks
· Cleans company vehicles and prepares vehicles for next-day deliveries in a safe and secure manner
· Observes safety and security procedures
