Material Handlers are responsible for working within a team to Unload, and Load lumber and other raw materials to support the running manufacturing equipment. Tasks within these roles can include but are not limited to unloading trucks, transporting raw material to processing equipment, staging cut material, loading manufacturing lines, transporting WIP, staging finished goods, and loading finished product. These roles will have responsibility to perform to quality and safety standards while meeting production goals. Forklift operating is done both outside and inside, on concrete or gravel surfaces. Product produced can be viewed at https://www.sonoco.com/product/wood-reels.Environment:Plant conditions are as follows: Non-temperature controlled, open warehouse which leads to hot temperatures during the summer and cold temperatures during the winter, saw dust, and heavy noise pollution. Material handlers will operate lifts both inside and outside regardless of weather conditions. We provide all necessary PPE and Safety items to ensure your employment here is as comfortable as possible.

Based on the current need of the plug plant we are posting an Operator position. The major responsibilities are listed below but are not limited to only these duties. The base rate for this position is $20.00. Depending on the shift there may be an additional shift differential for night shift. This role will be responsible for but not limited to the following duties.

Job Duties

  • Operators are expected to operate and maintain a minimum of 4 machines and maximum of 6 machines.
  • Adhere to Safety Rules and regulations.
  • Maintain quality standards set forth by product specifications.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to make proper machine adjustments on all machinery in the department to meet safety and quality requirements.
  • Must monitor raw materials for moisture and resin content and proper distribution of materials in machinery.
  • Must maintain and monitor the condition of molds in machinery and storage areas for adherence to safety and quality guidelines.
  • Clean machines several times throughout the shift to maintain performance standards.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as required to include cleaning of processing equipment, mixing equipment and material transport equipment.
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance and team maintenance actions.

Previous Experience Preferred

  • Prior experience operating industrial machinery.
  • Examples of identifying and making improvements in the plant.
  • Experience working in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Knowledge of Computer based programs
  • Has demonstrated good attendance.
  • Has demonstrated collaboration, communication and teamwork.
  • Not on Final for attendance performance.

Performance

  • Performance is measured based on safety, machine scrap rate and uptime performance.

Maintains a neat and orderly inventory for paper and other materials. Hauls paper to the spiral machine prior to changeovers, assists spiral crew during changeovers by helping with paper and removing excess paper. Supplies paper to the spiral machine as needed. Monitors and maintains adequate level of adhesive necessary for manufacturing. Orders and maintains an adequate inventory of all papers needed for manufacturing. Maintains records on paper ordered. Participates in the orderly handling of customer scrap and in-house scrap. Bales scrap as necessary. Loads and unloads raw materials safely and without damage. Performs service checks on forklifts before operation. Must be willing to train for higher job classifications and accept job assignments as needed. Performs similar related duties as assigned based on (1) Safety, (2) Quality, (3) Housekeeping, (4) Scrap, and (5) Production.

Every employee must be versatile and willing to use teamwork to obtain plant objectives.
