You will prepare and position patients and equipment is a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures.

Qualifications:
Graduate of a School of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound
Current ultrasound registry required.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in MFM, high-risk OB or an acute-care setting is strongly preferred.
Current American Heart Association certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.

Current BLS certification, AHA

Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Charge Medical Technologist or designate, the Echocardiography Sonographer provides delivery of ultrasound services as defined at regional and local levels. The Sonographer performs echocardiography scans requested by Physicians, and deals effectively with related patient management, exam requests, diagnostic file management, equipment and supplies management. Where experiences do occur, in unusual circumstances, they assist in the provision of radiographic/ECG duties, if appropriately trained and qualified. The incumbent will maintain a safe environment in accordance with professional and provincial guidelines and ensure compliance with quality assurance programs and maintain standards put forth by Accreditation. Functions are conducted in accordance with the Mission and Values of Shared Health, current policies, procedures and applicable legislation.

Must be a graduate of an approved and accredited Ultrasound training program.
Certification/Licensure/Registration

Registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiography Technologists (CAMRT) would be an asset.

Responsibilities
Performs diagnostic sonographic and interventional procedures in the department or on the units under the general supervision of the Chief Imaging Technologist and with the assistance of a Physician or a Senior Sonographer.
Consistently selects appropriate equipment and protocol required for patient's exam when considering patient's age and development and study requested according to established guidelines.
Routinely maneuvers patient into optimal position(s) according to established guidelines.
Consistently demonstrates appropriate knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy by obtaining complete series of diagnostic, quality images within an agreed upon time frame per protocol.
Routinely and accurately obtains reproducible measurements needed per protocol using established manual or computerized methods.
Consistently provides interpreting physician with completed study and preliminary findings.
Regularly adheres to new and/or revised aseptic technique procedures and protocols.

Qualifications

ARDMS RVT certification is required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs routine breast ultrasound procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist. Patients
are positioned and scanned correctly assuring that the physician prescription and scan are the same.
2. Properly inputs all required patient information into the system including protocol, patient history in full
sentences, performing providers, and any additional information to the radiologist regarding the procedure.
3. Obtains complete and detailed history to assist the radiologist with diagnosis from each patient. Performs exams
in an accurate and timely manner.
4. Properly identifies patients and demonstrates compassion while maintaining patient confidentiality. Explains
the exam to each patient to ensure patient safety and cooperation.
5. Assists the radiologist during breast biopsies while following OSHA and universal precautions. Reviews consent
forms with patients and answers any questions regarding the procedure, and ensures that the radiologist and patient
sign the consent forms. Properly labels the specimen containers and fills out any necessary paperwork accurately.
6. Maintains exam rooms by stocking exam rooms with necessary supplies. Maintains equipment and reports any
equipment malfunctions to the supervisor or appropriate service provider.
7. Properly windows and levels images for film printing and burns CDs as necessary.
8. Promotes teamwork by assisting other staff as needed. Performs other duties as required.

WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
2 or more years in the Sonography field is preferred.

Summary
Position Highlights:
* Under the broad direction of the Radiologist and Administrator of Diagnostic Imaging, the Ultrasound Technologist shall perform ultrasound examinations on selected portions of the anatomy as requested by the clinician on patients based on age appropriateness. The technologist is expected to perform a variety of ultrasound procedures with the knowledge and ability to obtain a quality diagnostic examination.
* Responsible to obtain patient history and appropriate clinical data to aid in the diagnostic of the patient.
* Must be able to work scheduled weekends and "ON CALL" hours, if applicable.
* MUST BE AVAILABLE TO ROTATE THROUGH MULTIPLE SITES, MMH, MCC, MKC, MIP
The Ideal Candidate:
* Competency in all aspects of Sonography, a working knowledge of anatomy and an understanding of pathology, which affect the quality of the ultrasound procedure.
* Interpersonal skills and basic computer skills.
* Preferred - Minimum of two years' experience in ultrasound within a hospital setting.
Responsibilities:
* Complete the required calibration and understand the Quality Assurance guidelines for equipment.
* Must be competent in performing all Ultrasound exams and knowledgeable on the usage of all equipment.
* Able to understand and apply correct billing charges per exam.
* Coordinate workflow and patient schedules.
* Maintain proper supplies to function on a day-to-day basis.
Credentials and Qualifications:
* High School Diploma / GED
* Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or equivalent at the time of hire OR can obtain within 1 year of hire.
* Must be familiar with Ultrasound procedures
* BLS certification

The role you'll contribute:
Performs at a technical level a variety of cardiac & vascular ultrasound procedures on neonatal through gerontologic patients. Has the latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Obtains quality diagnostic scans and assists physicians as needed. Selects practical applications and technical factors. Is knowledgeable in and carries out all applicable processes of the department. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures. Teaches and directs the work of other staff and students as required. Performs additional duties as requested. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Performs, properly documents and reports all procedures in accordance with departmental policy.
Adapts procedure to each patients medical situation obtaining all available necessary information for proper interpretation.
Demonstrates knowledge of Cardiac & Vascular anatomy and physiology.
Cardiac Sonography: ability to perform echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, contrast and agitated saline studies, and assist with TEE procedures.
Vascular Sonography: ability to perform carotid exams, abdominal exams, upper and lower extremity arterial/venous studies with ankle brachial indexes, PVR, post vein ablations procedures, and imaging of pre-operative/post-operative bypass grafts, stents and endarterectomies.
Calculates information accurately. Follows through with all details to ensure a smooth and timely flow of procedures.
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
Minimum qualifications :
* High School Graduate or Equivalent
* Graduate of two-year Cardiac or Vascular Ultrasound program and registered in appropriate modalities
* 2 Years of experience in a diagnostic medical sonographer position with cardiac ultrasound, adult vascular ultrasound, including venous and arterial (upper and lower extremities), carotid, and abdominal vascular
* 1 Years of experience or more modalities relevant to field: RDCS, RCS and/or RVT certification
* BLS upon hire or within 90 days. CPR skills check biannually
Preferred qualifications:
* Bachelors of Science Degree
