Current BLS certification required.

As a member of the Diagnostic Imaging Department Team, assist in providing coordinated and compassionate care at every patient encounter at Yale Health. Responsibilities include perform specialized testing procedures appropriate to specialty (ultrasonography) in Diagnostic Imaging. Review patient's chart, patient's condition and physician's orders to plan and determine method of testing. Position patients. Set up, operate and maintain equipment to conduct tests and procedures. Perform high level disinfection of u/s probes at the department level. Instruct and act as a source of information on testing techniques, procedures and equipment operation. Assist patients when necessary to dress/undress for exams, or in transfers to/from wheelchair, stretcher, exam tables, etc. Assist in Diagnostic Imaging/ultrasound exams as directed by the radiologist. Maintain strict patient confidentiality. Act as a liaison with repair personnel. Order and maintain inventory of supplies. Maintain disposable inventory per department protocol regarding date of use/disposal. Perform additional functions related to clinical as needed.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Candidates will need to have a Certification as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. Demonstrated skill with ultrasound in a safe and reliable manner. Proficient in OB-GYN (Level 1), vascular and general.
2. Proven ability as a medical ultra sonographer in a clinical setting such as a hospital or large medical practice. Demonstrated experience in an urgent care setting or fast paced medical environment.
3. Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with patients and co-workers.

The Perinatal Sonographer responsibilities to include but not limited to:
Performing perinatal diagnostic medical sonograms in accordance with protocols to assist the physician with diagnosis and treatment.

Explains exams and procedures thoroughly to patient before they are performed. Allows time for and encourages questions.
Effectively utilizes available resources and other members of the healthcare team to assure timeliness and accuracy of performing requested exam. Follows through with notification of appropriate parties of any variations and or changes of requested exam.
Performs Ultrasound exams on a daily basis requesting by licensed providers. Also provides support to other technical and non-technical areas as needed. Ensures all images are of excellent diagnostic quality.
Teaches and mentors new sonographers, student sonographers and Residents as appropriate. Evaluates their knowledge / skill levels and communicates it to the department and program coordinators.
Assures accurate physician, patient and exam data transfer between department and hospital systems. Reports all errors to proper personnel in a timely manner

BLS certification (obtained within 3 months of hire). ICAEL/IAC accreditation: Sonographers must have the required CMEs per triennial submission. SPECIAL SKILLS
Proficient in routine echo and/or vascular imaging techniques. Strong computer skills and medical terminology preferred. Must possess good organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Must be able to lift (patient transfers) and push 40 lbs. (portable US equipment). Requires extended periods of sitting, walking, and standing.
