Performing duties to include rotational training of personnel and interns as needed, ensuring technical competency of all staff and student interns, and ensuring the lab and personnel meets JCAHO and ICAEL standards. Aiding diagnostic manager with ICAEL renewal process. Able to provide complex technical care with the use of ultrasound echocardiography technology for adult and geriatric patients. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Performs cardiac ultrasound testing to include 2D echo/Doppler, Dobutamine stress echo, exercise stress echo. Assures schedule coverage for testing and creates physician reading schedules * Creates schedules for technologists. * Creates physician reading schedules. * Responsible for daily out-patient schedules in EPIC and technologists working locations. * Is first line of contact for call-ins. * Fills in as needed for employees that cannot work. Maintains Echo Database/Archival system * Ensures all studies are transferred to correct reading doctor daily * Provides physician and staff assistance and/or training as needed * Copies studies from data base for various needs Oversees the orientation process and on-going learning for the Echo Lab ensuring the technical competency of all staff sonographers. * Develops the orientation process with assistance/direction from the Clinical Manager. * Maintains adequate records for all orientees in the department showing compliance with regulatory, hospital, and departmental requirements. * Reports variances to Clinical Manager for follow up Oversees technical component for Echocardiography meetings * Prepare interesting studies for review * Prepares mismatches for correlations for review * Assists Clinical Manager in organizing, recording and archiving data from Meetings for ICAEL accreditation. * Assists in database management and collection of data required for accreditation Assures program compliance with JCAHO and ICAEL standards, and assists Clinical Manager with technical component of staff evaluations * Completes daily and monthly checklists * Completes monthly reports from Echo Database System * Provides written and verbal feedback at 90-days and annually on employees * Provides communications in timely manner regarding technical inadequacies of staff * Provides communications in timely manner regarding student intern behavior and technical outcomes Provides rotational training of staff sonographers and student interns. Ensures technical competency of all staff and interns during precepting period. * Ensures completion of checklist within 90 says for all orientees, or if orientation is extended, by the completion date of orientation. * Provides supportive, timely, and constructive feedback to all orientees during precepting period. * Provides resources and development tools to foster a dynamic learning environment. * Completion of checklists or ICAEL and JCAHO, and evaluations of interns and 90 day checklists * Communicates with other team members regarding learning needs for orientees or students, providing a consistent learning environment among staff Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma General or GED General Trade School Diploma/Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonography-Preferred Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. RESPONSIBLE FOR: Operates ultrasound equipment to perform clinical diagnostic ultrasound exams and routine invasive procedures according to established standards and practices. Provides patient services utilizing ultrasound equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology. Provides patient care to all age groups to include neonatal, pediatrics, adult, and geriatrics. Communicates effectively with staff and radiologists. Qualifications: MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: Graduate of an AMA approved Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or JRCERT accredited hospital based training program, or equivalent experience according to Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None. MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW: None ? Must become registered by the ARDMS within (6) months of employment. Vascular Sonographers must become registered and/or RVT, RVS, RT(S), RT(VS) within (6) months of employment. Licensure requirement for Breast Ultrasound can be met with registration through ARRT (BS). ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: BLS certified. One (1) year of experience is preferred.     What You Will Do Under indirect supervision, performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving of general and all general ultrasound images. Responsible for the care of the patient while in the ultrasound department. Performs portable US exams based on provider order and/or patient condition. Positions patients and selects appropriate protocol to demonstrate anatomy of area of interest based on accepted General US principles. Judges' diagnostic quality of finished medical images and processes preliminary reports and/or work sheets prior to submission to physician for interpretation. Identifies and documents any limitations to the sonography examination. Customizes each patient exam based on accepted ultrasound/sonography principles to optimize the diagnostic value of each specific imaging encounter. Applies independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images. Assists radiologist with US guidance for US procedure such as biopsies or aspirations as needed. Reviews all diagnostic ultrasound requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. All questionable orders are communicated to the ordering provider and any unresolved concerns are taken to the interpreting physician for final approval. Provides relevant patient history and/or codes for all ultrasound procedures based on facility requirements. Performs clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing and archiving of patient record. Offers detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients prior and answers questions as appropriate. Observes patient while in ultrasound for change in status and makes appropriate intervention or contacts primary care givers for instruction. Identifies and corrects problems as appropriate with all critical occurrences reported to the next level of authority. Maintains all required continuing education and applicable certifications as ann ultrasound technologist. Ensures equipment is maintained to assure conformance of specific operational standards including US equipment and Trophon if applicable. What You Will Need Must be a High School or GED Diploma Graduate. Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, vascular or cardiovascular ultrasound program, or BS in Ultrasound. Registry Eligible through ARDMS or ARRT. Registry required within one year of employment. Minimum 1 year of experience preferred
