Provide health care services, applying sonic energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment while performing ultrasonic imaging and related procedures for OB/GYN, with general US exposure if desired. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner and/or Maternal Fetal Medicine Perinatologist. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.
Responsibilities:
Performs diagnostic procedures; scans including but not limited to Detailed Anatomy, Multiples, Twin to Twin checks, and fetal dopplers.
Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
Prepares patient for procedures; provides instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
Selects and operates ultrasound equipment, and associated devices to achieve desired results.
Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination.
Determines ultrasonic frequencies and appropriate transducers for the anatomic area of interest.
Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
Verifies informed consent for, and assists a licensed practitioner with, interventional procedures.
Practices aseptic techniques as necessary.
Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures.
In agreement with state statute(s) and/or where institutional policy permits prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
Maintains knowledge of and observes Universal precautions.
Provides patient education.

Qualifications:
Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited sonography program
Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, or equivalent approved certification with current OB experience.
Licensed in the State of Oregon as an Ultra Sonographer or Radiologic Technologist/Sonographer.
MFM experience preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Individuals in this position will be certified sonographers by the Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (R.DM.S.). Individuals perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures which vary in complexity because of the varied anatomy and the physical and emotional condition of the patient. Sonographers will interface with sophisticated ultrasound and computer equipment used in image acquisition and processing to produce diagnostic quality studies.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Determine test procedure according to the purpose of the examination and review prior imaging exams.
Explain procedure to patients and assists patients in the proper positioning for the test.
Select transducer and make equipment adjustments according to the nature of test, depth of field, and other test specifications.
Enter test data and patient information into the computer to become part of the test record.
Conduct actual test procedures. Moves handheld transducer over specified area of the body and while observing on the monitor selectively record images for the patient's permanent record.
Record diagnostic data onto PACS.
Check equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper operation.

The Ultrasonographer is responsible for performing sonographic procedures to assist in the diagnosis of disease as prescribed by a physician/APP including: Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area; selects the appropriate scan images to be recorded.
DUTIES:
Obtains essential information from patients;
Instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure;

Essential Functions:
* Uses ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to a prescribed area of the patient's body and capture quality images that describe the composition, shape and motion of tissues, organs, vessels and pathology. Summarizes, documents, verifies and presents images, findings, calculations and measurements to physicians for diagnoses. Adheres to ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, precautions and standards.
* Provides direct patient care, including assessing patient condition and ability to cooperate. Positions patients and equipment, prepares patients for procedures and continually monitors and records vital signs. Observes for reactions and signs of impending complications and intervening as needed.
* Maintains accurate records, files and billing information. Ensures the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
* Prepares rooms and patients for subsequent ultrasound procedures.
* Verifies operational status of equipment prior to daily utilization.
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
