Maintains American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and modality-specific competency in all clinical and technical functions.
Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.
Performs exams per department protocol and reviews images for quality, clarity, and accuracy.
Completes studies within acceptable time limits without compromising patient care or quality.
Assists and instructs students and other Radiology Techs in exam protocols, procedures, positioning, and equipment.

Understands and operates equipment and related information systems to ensure quality images.
Keeps accurate records of patient information, procedures performed, and any adverse reactions.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR FCMC
Our Ultrasound Technologists perform specialized exams under the supervision of a Radiologist to diagnose, treat, and care for our patients. More specifically, some of the Ultrasound Technologists' vital responsibilities include:

Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology. A Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is preferred.

Licensing/Certification:

Ultrasonographer
Performs a variety of Sonographic procedures independently in accordance with existing policies and procedures, both within the Ultrasonography suite and/or patient room or unit.
Assists the Radiologist with invasive procedures that may include, but are not limited to: Amniocenteses, Core and Needle biopsy, cyst aspiration and line placements.
Documents appropriate patient information necessary for interpretation and patient care.
Assesses technical quality of sonograms before giving such to the Radiologist; performs retakes as necessary.

Answers questions and provides information to center customers, including nursing staff, physicians, and the general public on sonographic procedures, sonographic anatomy, and sonographic principles.
Trouble shoots technical problems and works with the vendors to resolve problems that arise.
Maintains flexibility as department grows with a willingness to accept additional responsibilities requested by department director.
Demonstrates age-specific competency for the following groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Acts professional in every situation: patient, co-worker or intradepartmental.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ultrasonographer
Performs a variety of Sonographic procedures independently in accordance with existing policies and procedures, both within the Ultrasonography suite and/or patient room or unit.
Assists the Radiologist with invasive procedures that may include, but are not limited to: Amniocenteses, Core and Needle biopsy, cyst aspiration and line placements.
Documents appropriate patient information necessary for interpretation and patient care.
Assesses technical quality of sonograms before giving such to the Radiologist; performs retakes as necessary.
Assists the Radiologist with invasive procedures that may include, but are not limited to: Paracentesis, thoracentesis, Core and Needle biopsy, cyst aspiration and line placements as needed.
Covers emergent patients from hospital emergency department and hospital inpatients. Willing to share call responsibilities to cover the needs of emergent patients.
Answers questions and provides information to center customers, including nursing staff, physicians, and the general public on sonographic procedures, sonographic anatomy, and sonographic principles.
Trouble shoots technical problems and works with the vendors to resolve problems that arise.
Maintains flexibility as department grows with a willingness to accept additional responsibilities requested by department director.
Demonstrates age-specific competency for the following groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Acts professional in every situation: patient, co-worker or intradepartmental.
Protects information that is sensitive, proprietary or confidential in nature. Adheres to Patient Rights Policy and patient confidentiality standards.

Qualifications
Education: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Sonography (ARRT) (S). CPR Certification.
Experience: Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Preferred 2+ registries, options include OB, abdominal, neuro, and vascular.
