Summary:

The Lead Perinatal Sonographer performs standard, specialty and complex obstetric diagnostic sonographic examinations and procedures with mastery, producing superior quality studies under a variety of conditions. They are responsible for working knowledge, operation and maintenance of all ultrasound related equipment, performance of ultrasound studies related to high-risk obstetrical ultrasounds and recording these images in the standard formats for diagnosis by a physician. The Lead Perinatal Sonographer is responsible for perinatal sonography orientation, training/education, and provides feedback to management regarding performance evaluations. The Senior Perinatal Sonographer will provide high quality ultrasound for interpretation and diagnosis by a maternal fetal medicine physician. To act as a mentor and resource for medical students, residents, fellows and sonographers in performing high quality fetal ultrasound scan /fetal echocardiograms as well as assisting them in developing other clinical and administrative skills necessary to their roles. Perform perinatal ultrasounds. Act as a mentor for students, staff, and fellows in fulfilling their roles within the Perinatal Department.
Job Duties:
Operate all equipment to perform diagnostic echocardiograms. Use correct parameters based on patient age and diagnosis. This may include but is not limited to 2D, 3D, Doppler and color Doppler.
Demonstrates proficient skills in at least one additional advanced form of imaging. This may include but is not limited to:
3D imaging and rendering
Fetal cardiac imaging.
Efficiently and effectively perform pre-work by searching for relevant information related to prior study,
Communicate efficiently and effectively with ordering and/or interpreting physician - prior studies and as needed for outpatient studies to define study goals.
Measure all M-mode, 2D, 3D, Doppler, and color Doppler flow patterns. Calculate measurements, formulas, and ratios. Enter calculations and measurements into patient report in AS software.
Analyze images and correctly annotate in PACS system.
Act as a mentor and resource for students, sonographers and fellows in clinical situations.

The Sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonography area, basic equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessments (QA). The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations, e.g., vascular, breast, kidney, abdominal, BPP, etc. Performs diagnostic OB/GYN sonography as prescribed by the physician. Submits diagnostic ultrasound exam to physician for interpretation.
Uses cognitive sonography skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological and diagnostic information and images.
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient during the procedure.
Maintains a safe workplace environment and ensures adequate supplies.
Checks to ensure that equipment operates at an acceptable performance level. Contacts manufacturer for equipment repairs and maintenance check.
Ensures high level of customer service.
Uses cognitive sonography skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
Uses independent judgment during the sonography exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonography information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate provider.
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.
Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring provider when required, according to established procedures.
Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
Reports equipment failures.
Provides in-service education team on requirements of sonography procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program
Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is highly desirable.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonography equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonography area, basic equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessments (QA). The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations, e.g., vascular, breast, kidney, abdominal, BPP, etc. Performs diagnostic OB/GYN sonography as prescribed by the physician. Submits diagnostic ultrasound exam to physician for interpretation.
Uses cognitive sonography skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological and diagnostic information and images.
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient during the procedure.
Maintains a safe workplace environment and ensures adequate supplies.
Checks to ensure that equipment operates at an acceptable performance level. Contacts manufacturer for equipment repairs and maintenance check.
Ensures high level of customer service.
Uses cognitive sonography skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
Uses independent judgment during the sonography exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonography information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate provider.
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.
Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring provider when required, according to established procedures.
Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
Reports equipment failures.
Provides in-service education team on requirements of sonography procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program
Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to effectively operate sonography equipment.
Ability to evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt sonography examination as necessary.
