In collaboration with staff radiologists, this job independently performs advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Knowledge of the anatomy of the liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, and pancreas and ability to perform abdominal ultrasound and the pathology of these organs to provide radiologists with a preliminary diagnosis.
Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
Job Duties
Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including assisting radiologists in guided procedures in a variety of settings).
Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performing notification/remediation as warranted.
Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
Performs other related duties as required.

Provides clinical services according to Radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions:
* Performs complex technical aspects of Diagnostic Ultrasound and produces images of internal organs displaying quality and proficiency. Observes and monitors patient's vital signs. Monitors medical equipment attached to the patient during the radiographic procedure. Reviews physician orders with the Radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained as required. Demonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS.
Administers sound patient care practices according to department and hospital policies and procedures to ensure the safety of the patient(s):
* Communicates effectively with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient while optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination. Explains procedure to patients/families, answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
Maintains equipment, exam rooms, work areas in a neat and safe condition. Ensure the safety of the patients and employees:
* Checks and inspects the suite, equipment, and accessories daily for physical or mechanical hazards. Troubleshoots malfunctions immediately. Checks stock supply levels and displays an effort in supply maintenance and utilization. Cleans and disinfects equipment.
Maintains quality control checks in accordance with policy requirements:
* Maintains proper sterile technique for procedures and practices aseptic techniques. Adheres to the hospital policy on body substance isolation strictly.

Appropriate combination of education and work experience is required:
* Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or equivalent (including training from United States Armed Forces) and 1 (one) year of Ultrasound Technology experience.

Day to Day
GENERAL DUTIES
Provides clinical services according to Radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions:
* Performs the technical aspects of Diagnostic Ultrasound and produces images of internal organs displaying quality and proficiency.
* Observes and monitors patient's vital signs.
* Monitors medical equipment attached to the patient during the radiographic procedure.
* Reviews physician orders with the Radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained as required.
* Demonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS.
Administers sound patient care practices according to department and hospital policies and procedures to ensure the safety of the patient:
* Communicates effectively with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient while optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination.
* Explains procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
Maintains equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition, to ensure the safety of the patients and employees:
* Checks and inspects the suite, equipment, and accessories daily for physical or mechanical hazards.
* Troubleshoots malfunctions, immediately.
* Checks stock supply levels and displays an effort in supply maintenance and utilization.
* Cleans and disinfects equipment.
Maintains quality control checks in accordance with policy requirements:
* Maintains proper sterile technique for procedures and practices aseptic techniques.

Your job is more than a job. The Ultrasound Technologist Associate is responsible for performing all diagnostic procedures related to Ultrasound. Provides clinical services according to radiology/imaging practice standards. Demonstrates skills and knowledge in use of all ultrasound equipment and performance of all protocols and procedures. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing high quality exams within the appropriate length of time for procedure.

Your Everyday
1. Demonstrate proficient technical skills and knowledge in use of all ultrasound/sonography equipment, protocols, procedures and producing quality imaging of internal organs.
2. Observe and monitor patient's vital signs.
3. Review physician orders with the Radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results.
4. Prepare and review procedure with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent, educate, ease anxiety, answer questions and address concerns to ensure patient cooperation.
5. Recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action for a positive outcome.
6. Evaluate critical test findings and review anatomic details and abnormalities with radiologists if needed.
7. Maintain inventory of supplies and orders as needed.
8. Maintain equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition to ensure the safety of the patients and employees.
9. Check and inspect the suite, clean and assess equipment daily for physical or mechanical hazards immediately reporting dangerous conditions to the appropriate team member.
10. Maintain appropriate stock supply levels.
11. Demonstrate a satisfactory working knowledge of and the ability to input and verify data in PACS
12. Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
13. Contribute to the team by assisting others without being asked.
Must Haves
1. Eligible for Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
2. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
