ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (90%) Patient Ultrasound Imaging Screens patient before exam for any precautions or contradictions pertaining to examination, using two patient identifiers to ensure correct patient and procedure Explains and prepares patients for Ultrasound imaging procedures that will be performed, explaining the procedure, positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately Performs routine and advanced Ultrasound imaging procedures on designated portions of the body for use by physicians in the diagnosing and treating of patient illness and/or injury with minimal amount of supervision or repeats scanned, while providing patient support by talking to patients throughout procedure Adjusts Ultrasound scan parameters correctly and as needed Maintains positive attitude and working relationships with radiologist, referring customers and other associates and peers Follows physicians' orders precisely and conforms to safety regulations to protect yourself, your patients, and coworkers Accurately maintains patient records within Radiology Information System (RIS) Maintains an orderly and clean work area promoting good safety habits for patients and co-workers Maintains ACR toolkit and accreditation requirements Maintains equipment in good working order; cleans and disinfects equipment after each use Ensures compliance with all HIPAA guidelines Routinely prepares examination for interpretation by the radiologist to include correct identification and processing of films, adequate clinical history and previous x-rays for comparison (if available) Practices and maintains standard precautions and infection control policy standards (5%) Ultrasound Department Support Assists with maintaining an updated imaging protocol manual and software upgrades Monitors medical supply inventory and requests supplies as necessary Assists with training of new associates, providing resource and technical expertise, as applicable (5%) Completes other tasks as assigned

The function of the Ultrasound sonographer position within the Department of Diagnostic Imaging is to perform all phases of diagnostic medical sonography. Function/Duties of Position Imaging: Provides quality real time 2D, 3D, M Mode and doppler applications to acquire images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of equipment. Documents and demonstrates knowledge and skill to evaluate normal /abnormal anatomy and any related pathologies for presentation to Radiologist. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in ultrasound physics. Exercises responsible judgment in recognizing and reporting significant situations relating to patient care. Performs portable procedures when needed. Prepares and instructs the patient for the diagnostic study using age appropriate communication skills. Optimizes each image during the examination to obtain the highest quality study with the least discomfort to the patient. Must be able to perform all ranges of exams after completion of technical competencies. Assists the physician in invasive and/or specialized procedures, such as amniocentesis, needle biopsy, localizations, and tumor masses, as directed. Continues to stay current in regards to new US technology hardware and software upgrades. Documentation: Verifies complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers. Verifies and initials orders in patient chart, Responsible for correctly identify patients by complying with Imaging dept. Patient Identification Policy. Labels images completely with patient demographics, position or other required documentation. Follows through with all aspects of scanning duties in order to provide efficient and timely completion of examinations with correct data entry, begin and complete with correct billing and verification that images are in PACS. Keeps equipment and work areas neat and clean. Maintains adequate par levels of all supplies. Performs quality control on diagnostic equipment and maintains a logbook for weekly entries as needed. Other Duties as Assigned Required Qualifications Graduate of an approved diagnostic medical sonography course that meets current qualifications to apply for and take ARDMS board examinations upon hire. Candidates must be American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) registered in OB/GYN and Abdomen within 12 months of hire date. Must be licensed by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging. Must have current approved CPR Card. AHA BLS required upon hire. Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies): Must have good judgment, decision making and communication skills. Proficient in the use of various ultrasound units.
