Job Description ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform Ultrasound exams as indicated. Obtain appropriate medical history from referring physician and patient. Request pertinent outside films and reports when indicated for correlation. Complete sonographer worksheets with all exams. Review images/films with Radiologist. Monitor ultrasound supplies and order as necessary. Maintain preventative maintenance on ultrasound system, keeping detailed records on file. Maintain all credentials with regard to ACR and other certification and accreditation. Additional duties as requested by management staff. Understands/utilizes all electronic and computer systems including basic trouble shooting. Adhere to the ergonomic safety policy and comply with the ergonomic established competencies. JOB REQUIREMENTS Completion of a recognized AMA school of sonography or equivalent; national certification, (RDMS) required. Experienced preferred. Current experience in all areas of diagnostic medical sonography. Clinical competence in the delivery of care for selected patient populations. Must be familiar with current regulations. Job Summary Summary Under general supervision and following established procedures, the incumbent operates ultrasound imaging equipment to acquire images and communicates sonographer impressions to interpreting physicians. The incumbent must have problem-solving skills and be an active participant in departmental initiatives. The incumbent must effectively communicate with students, peers, patients, and physicians to ensure the safety and quality of imaging. Exercises independent judgment to modify scan techniques for optimal image quality. Must be solution-oriented, exemplify professional, respectful, and inclusive behavior with all staff, patients, visitors, and students, and actively participate in departmental initiatives. The incumbent participates in call, holiday, and shift rotations as required by the department. May be required to rotate among the main campus and community radiology locations, with appropriate training. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions Patient and exam verification: • Ensures that two points of patient identification, date of birth & full name are obtained to verify that the correct patient is being treated. • Reviews the order for exam and indications, and the patient's chart for pertinent clinical history. • Prepares and cleans the equipment and room for each patient. Stock supplies to ensure rooms are ready to care for patients. -Patient Care & Collaboration: • Uses clear communication when explaining the exam to the patient, taking into consideration physical and emotional needs. Ensures understanding and maintains ethical standards (patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.). • Works collaboratively with the leadership team to ensure a smooth and efficient patient flow, as well as optimal utilization of US scanners. • Delivers patient care under the scope of license/training. -Department & On-Call Coverage: • To assume all responsibilities for on-call and holiday coverage. • Remains flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as necessary. -Clinical Performance: • Performs all duties pertaining to the performance of clinical ultrasound exams. • Oversee and instruct sonographers, professional staff, and students within the department. Job Description Cardiac Sonographer II Day Shift | Full-Time Typical Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The Cardiac Sonographer II performs moderate-complexity cardiac ultrasound exams and procedures. This role requires independent clinical judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to identify and communicate abnormal findings accurately. Qualified candidates will perform carotid dopplers, segmental pressures, bypass graft surveillance examinations and upper and lower extremity venous studies. In addition, we support a growing and thriving Vein Center and two outreach clinics The surgical group consists of 9 vascular surgeons serving Maine and New Hampshire and our equipment consists of Phillips ultrasound units and Parks Flo Lab. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) * Education: Degree in Sonography/Vascular Technology from an accredited school required. Graduation from an accredited Vascular Technology program with RVT credentials required. * License/Certifications: RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist), RDMS (Registers Diagnostic Medical Sonographer), or RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) required. ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical sonographers) Certified or eligible. RVT must be obtained within one year of full-time employment or within two years of part-time employment.
