Maintain ultrasound equipment and accurate patient documentation
Requirements:
1. Completion of Echocardiogram program within 90 days of hire or equivalent training required
2. Current BCLS certificate upon hire and maintain current required

4. Previous experience in performing Echocardiograms of all ages preferred
5. Hospital experience in the Cardiology field preferred

Recognizes adequate vs inadequate data collection, and prepares preliminary report in a form presentable for physician interpretation
Recognizes abnormalities and life threatening findings and reports to physician or nursing unit as indicated. Documents notification as part of Quality Improvement activities
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Training: Accredited Allied Health Program, registry eligible
Certifications: American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Healthcare Provider
Work Experience: Previous clinical background required

The cardiac sonographer is responsible for performing professional quality
cardiac ultrasound procedures including M-MODE, 2D (real time), PW/CW DOPPLER,COLOR FLOW IMAGING, STRESS ECHOES, TRANSESOPHAGEAL AND CONTRAST ULTRASOUND studies. Tests are performed according to the standards/guidelines of the American Society of Echocardiography. The sonographer prepares the patient for examination by explaining the procedure, acquires demographic information, clinical history, and correlates symptoms with findings. The sonographer must have the ability to recognize abnormal pathology and demonstrate correlation of this information into a useful study, generating a permanent record of the examination on the digital PACS system and hardcopy. An initial report is prepared for the Cardiologist to read. Direct notification to the cardiologist is initiated for issues requiring immediate attention. Each sonographer is expected to participate as a member of the Cardiac Ultrasound team, assisting in all aspect of the delivery of services to patients and physicians.

- Three to five years Cardiac ultrasound experience required with knowledge of

1. Performs specialized or general procedures according to established departmental protocols.
2. Performs ultrasound procedures for Cardiac Ultrasound procedures and other specific areas as required.
3. Operates all types of Ultrasound equipment. Performs portable exams in various areas throughout the hospital to include the Operating Room and Intensive Care Units and off-site locations. Records images and makes hard copies (CD's) where applicable.
4. Uses Epic to schedule and complete exams as applicable. Completes preliminary reports in Epic.
5. Serves as a resource to sonographers, MDs, and students.

1. Specialized post-secondary training equal to two years of college.
2. Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), including the RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, under the ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) for cardiac specialties.
On call weekends every 5-6 week. Work at offsite locations/campus on a rotating schedule. Monday- Friday 8:30am-5pm.

The cardiac sonographer is responsible for performing professional quality
cardiac ultrasound procedures including M-MODE, 2D (real time), PW/CW DOPPLER,COLOR FLOW IMAGING, STRESS ECHOES, TRANSESOPHAGEAL AND CONTRAST ULTRASOUND studies. Tests are performed according to the standards/guidelines of the American Society of Echocardiography. The sonographer prepares the patient for examination by explaining the procedure, acquires demographic information, clinical history, and correlates symptoms with findings. The sonographer must have the ability to recognize abnormal pathology and demonstrate correlation of this information into a useful study, generating a permanent record of the examination on the digital PACS system and hardcopy. An initial report is prepared for the Cardiologist to read. Direct notification to the cardiologist is initiated for issues requiring immediate attention. Each sonographer is expected to participate as a member of the Cardiac Ultrasound team, assisting in all aspect of the delivery of services to patients and physicians.

Explains exam to the patient taking into consideration physical and emotional needs; maintaining ethical standards (patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.). Delivers patient care under scope of license/training
Utilizes universal precaution techniques as well as safety techniques specific to the patient's status.
Performs Ultrasound studies on premature infants in an intensive care unit. Is knowledgeable about illnesses related to this patient population and the various types of care being provided to them.
Be knowledgeable in the operation of all equipment to be used during the workday. To notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed
Rotates within department, divisions and all off-site clinics, by shifts as required and needed; cooperates with all personnel, promoting harmony within department
Maintains effective working relations and communication with departmental and other hospital personnel.
Execute paperwork, PACS, RIS, and reporting functions as necessary for each patient exam.
Prepare the equipment, room and supplies necessary for each patient and regular daily use. Stock and supply room and general department area as needed.
May oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must have graduated from an AMA accredited Ultrasound Program with a minimum of 12 months' full time clinical ultrasound experience.
Must meet the requirements and successfully complete the ARDMS certification (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) or equivalent.
Must become registered in all the institution's accredited specialties: first specialty or additional specialty must be completed within one year of start of employment. Second specialty within second year of employment. Additional specialties as required by the accreditation agency.
