The Ultrasonographer is responsible for performing sonographic procedures to assist in the diagnosis of disease as prescribed by a physician/APP including: Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area; selects the appropriate scan images to be recorded. DUTIES: Obtains essential information from patients; Instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure; Helps patient transfer to exam table and ensures adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan; Must know how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan; obtains diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the transducer; submits diagnostic ultrasound exam to physician for interpretation. Body parts may include: Scrotal, renal/bladder, transvaginal, abdominal for prostate volume. Assists in performing life-saving techniques (CPR, first aid) to the patient if necessary. Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients.
