As the Sonographer, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, you will perform specialized ultrasounds to assess fetal well-being in pregnant women.
You will assist the Maternal Fetal Medicine Physicians in performing ultrasound-guided procedures and inform medical staff in the event of abnormal findings/results.
You will prepare women for exams, including patient positioning to obtain the best possible images. You will participate in the clinical instruction of students as needed.

REQUIREMENTS
Must have attended an approved school of diagnostic ultrasound or have had the equivalent experience accepted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
Must have current registration as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) granted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or equivalent training that is accepted by the ARMDS or must be registry eligible. Registry eligible sonographers must successfully complete all requirements within 6 months of hire date. If this is not completed, the employee will be terminated.

About the Role
The Ultrasonographer is responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. Sonography, or ultrasonography, is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis. What You'll Be Doing
Reviews patient's medical history and physician's instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view.
Spreads gel on the skin to aid in the transmission of sound waves.
Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient's body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in a preliminary report for the physicians.
Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment.
Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What We Expect from You
Associate's or bachelor's degree in sonography from an accredited school.
Current RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) Certification

Qualifications
Graduate of Diagnostic Ultrasound Program or equivalent.
Minimal as gained at student level.
Registered by American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registry eligible, paid at the trainee rate for up to 1 year.
If unregistered must obtain at least one (ABD or OB/GYN) within 1 year from hire. Additional registry within two years from date of hire.
If registered at hire additional registry must be obtained within 1 year from hire.
Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers at hire through the American Heart Association.

Job Description:
As a member of the health care team, performs non-invasive cardiac diagnostic testing including M-mode echocardiograms, 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional Sector scans, Cardiac Doppler, Colorflow Imaging, and measurement of Ejection Fraction by echocardiogram on patients who are pediatric, adolescent, and adults at UTMC. Assists the physician in the performance of Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Performs Stress Exercise Echocardiograms in the Heart Station with the Stress Laboratory personnel. Maintains digital computer system.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or higher relevant degree required
•Must be registered in Adult Echocardiography through ARDMS or obtain within six (6) months of hire.

Computer knowledge required.

AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health Care Provider
•
Experience in non-invasive cardiology preferred.
