Responsibilities
1. Performs quality and efficient ultrasound exams in order to assist with a patient's diagnostic work-up
1.1 Follows routine protocols and/or physicians specific prescriptions. Repeat of examinations due to non-compliance or poor quality is minimal as observed by manager / supervisor or physician review.
2. Provides accurate and compassionate patient care in order to ensure service excellence, patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
2.1 Identifies patients and exams accurately 100% of the time according to departmental policy as observed by supervisor or other hospital staff.
3. Performs various record-keeping tasks in order to ensure department goals are met, medical record documentation accuracy, and daily operations run smoothly and efficiently.
3.1 Demonstrates a mastery of end user computer skills of the RIS (Imagecast, VIP, Synapse, Syngo Dynamics, Event Reporting) by accurately and independently performing related tasks such as exam scheduling, completion, document scanning etc.
4. Participates in various learning opportunities in order to further personal knowledge/skills and assists with teaching or training others.
4.1 Proactively seeks opportunities to further one's career, knowledge, and expertise through job related seminars, IFE courses, advanced degrees/certifications, or membership in professional societies, etc.
5. Employee follows established safety precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties in order to ensure a safe environment.
5.1 Operates equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner, following policies and procedures, to minimize risk of injury to patients. Demonstrates an understanding of body mechanics and use of patient lifting devices when appropriate.
6. To enhance the patient experience in Diagnostic radiology all staff will be responsible to achieve patient satisfaction scores set by the department on the Test & Treatment section of our Press Ganey Survey.
6.1 1. Staff will present themselves in a friendly and courteous manor; Staff will identify themselves and their role while encouraging a Patient and Family Center experience. 1.2 Staff will fully explain procedure and ask if the patient has any additional questions about the procedure. 1.3 Staff will address any comfort issues a patient may have prior to starting procedure. 1.4 Staff will thank patient once procedure is completed and ask the patient if they have any additional questions. 1.5 Staff must meet the above goals and fiscal year threshold value, which was last fiscal year actual for a 2 rating on review. 2. Staff must meet the above goals and exceed fiscal year threshold value by +.2 for a 3 rating on review. 3. EDUCATION
Required to meet one of the following: AS degree preferred and graduate of an accredited (CAAHEP) School of Diagnostic Sonography., AS degree and graduate of an accredited Allied Health program with an additional requirement of 12 months of full time Diagnostic Medical Sonography instruction., Graduate of Bachelor's program with an additional requirement of 12 months of full time Diagnostic Medical Sonography instruction.
EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine sonography.
LICENSURE
ARDMS certification to include Abdomen (AB) within six (6) months of hire is required (ARRT Sonography is also acceptable, but RDMS (Abdomen) AB certification is required to be obtained within six (6) months of hire date). Vascular certification is required to be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire date. OB/Gyn Certification is required within eighteen (18) months of hire date. CPR certification is preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Ultrasound Technologist responsibilities include using sonographic equipment to record images of patients for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Select and examine images, search for differences between healthy and pathological areas and determine if the scope of the exam should be extended based on preliminary findings.
Present the sonograms and preliminary findings to Physicians.
Complete the appropriate documentation and maintain patients' medical records.
Assist Physicians and healthcare teams during invasive procedures.
Maintain and clean the sonographic equipment.
Perform medical procedures, such as administering oxygen, taking vital signs and giving emergency treatments.
Select and examine images, search for differences between healthy and pathological areas and determine if the scope of the exam should be extended based on preliminary findings.
Present the sonograms and preliminary findings to Physicians.
Complete the appropriate documentation and maintain patients' medical records.
Assist Physicians and healthcare teams during invasive procedures.
Assist in the care and handling of equipment including maintaing and cleaning the sonographic equipment.
Perform medical care as needed, such as administering oxygen, taking vital signs and giving emergency treatments.
Insert patient information and personal data into the computer to maintain examination records.
Assess the patient's physical, psychological and educational needs in order to obtain appropriate history prior to each exam.
Explains process to patient, instructs and assists patient in to position for exam.
Monitor images for quality and adjusted as needed.
Record optimal anatomical images that are transferred to the PACS system, disc, strip printout or film to obtain a permanent record.
Provide relevant technical information about the patient and exam to facilitate in the interpretation of the study by the radiologist.
Performs other position related duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
Registration with one of the two recognized medical diagnostic sonography organizations is preferred: The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.
BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.
Current R.D.M.S. Certification.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Associate degree in Ultrasound Technology required.
Graduate of an Accredited Ultrasound Technician Program required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Previous Ultrasound Technologist experience strongly preferred- six months to one year related experience preferred. New grads will be considered.

Job Summary:
The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images to radiologists and physicians for interpretation. Performs all aspects of ultrasound procedures including abdominal, pelvic, gynecologic, small parts, Doppler studies and interventional procedures utilizing an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's individual age specific needs and to provide individualized age specific treatment and care.
Responsibilities:
* Performs ultrasound diagnostic procedures by positioning patients, selecting appropriate transducers and correct scanning sequences to produce an accurate image in order to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment.
* Provides and ensures optimal technical quality and accuracy of all Ultrasound examinations according to the American College of Radiology (ACR) standards & FDA quality control requirements. Assembles sterile trays and assumes scrub duties as necessary.
* Accurately inputs data into electronic medical record, RIS and PACS to capture necessary information regarding exams, supply charges, resource allocations, as well as all relevant clinical information. Transfers correctly annotated images into PACS.
* Organizes processed images, measurements, calculations and other data in a logical sequence for presentation to the physician for interpretation. Consults with physicians as requested regarding the quality of images and data obtained
* Obtains all relevant patient information, and assesses physician's order and/or requisition for completeness by reviewing the clinical information, pertinent laboratory results and patient's chart to ensure the correct procedure is performed and proper patient preparation is administered on the correct patient, to procure an accurate diagnosis.
* Perform other related duties as required.
* Graduate of an Accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program specializing in Sonography, credentialed from the American Registry for
* Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
* Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - ARDMS or RDMS.
