Pros of working at Sony Electronics

It's the brand and the product that takes you to the top. One of the world's best companies.

Cons of working at Sony Electronics

i do not see any cons concerning company, just one to add I am a South Asian, have always worked in an international environment. I was in Central Europe when I joined Sony, it was very difficult to get career opportunities. This has nothing to do with Sony. Diversity is not well accepted in Europe.

Sony Electronics benefits

It is very good. I do not think any other international company offers that wonderful benefits... not to my knowledge.

How are your coworkers?

There's three levels of coworker i'm gonna go over here. One, is the teammate I physically work with on a daily basis, in the same store as me. Two, is the team of Best Buy associates I work with at the store. and three, is all of the people that have my job, but have it at other locations. The first Group, is just one other person but he's freaking awesome. I love working with him, we make an amazing team and we move product like crazy, and we get along enough to talk outside of work about non work stuff, so it's all around a good time. He also doesnt do the douchey stuff that the managers tell us to do, so we get along in that regard as well. He hasnt been working as long as I have here, but he's quickly learning. Two, the associates I work with, are nothing but amazing. It's like one large family. If I ever have questions or if I need something found, I litterally just can ask and they make it their number one priority to make it happen, even if it's just radioing someone else in the building for me. In fact, one of my closest friends from there recently left for a new job, and I honestly have no idea how i'm gonna do, sales wise and just functioning wise, come tomorrow/ Friday. And, last, the other Sony guys in different stores. I want to make it clear I do not have hands on experience with any of these guys, the only interactions I have with them face to face are trainings, however we all do talk back and forth and pass info to each other during the work day. I do not like what I hear about them. On paper, they do great, but from other brand advocates like the Samsung guys, i've heard how they will bribe people to help them sell TV's, how they'll do stuff like use their USB's in other companies TV's to show weaknesses that they can exploit, just gay stuff like that. I do not know them on a personal level, this is all business.

Is it true what they say about Japanese companies -- that mandatory is an unspoken mandate as part of their working culture?

I'm unsure of what you mean exactly, but I think you're asking if they basically make it so, unspoken, you *have* to do certain things? To a degree that is correct, even though I don't work for the mother company, they still pass a lot of the same structure and workflow ideas onto me here. For example, I can get fired if I don't submit my reports for the day to my manager. Even though 98-99.9995% of it is useless information, it can still happen. If I didn't get it right, please ask again!

Did you get anything discounted for the Ps4?

I actually havent checked .-. I probably should. xD I do get quite nice discounts on everything Sony, however since it just launched I would assume not until the systems become more available and there aren't supply constraints. That's what happened with the Sony Xperia Z android tablet when it launched, and now I can order one with a discount.

Which department do you work in?

I am stationed in PC, (which means laptops, tablets, and headphones) however I spend most of my time in HD due to aforementioned managers. I feel more successful in HD than I do in PC's, although lately now that winter traffic is picking up it's starting to flip around.

What is the best and worst part of your job

There's two best parts, all the people I meet and all the cool stuff I get. I love Sony, so working for them is like a dream job, I get to surround myself with products like the PS4 and 4K TV's, while working and it's all allowed for me to play with them and show them off. The worst part is my managers. Sony is losing marketshare to Samsung FAST, and it's showing. They're having me do stuff I don't exactly agree with, as well as point blank break the policies of the retailer I am stationed in. None of which I do actually. The others in my team do, however.
