In addition to his work with Southern California Edison and the High Voltage Laboratory, he invented a vacuum switch for high-voltage electrical systems in 1923.

1946

1946 Returning from military service in the South Pacific during World War II, Frank Sorenson is employed as a machinist on Davenport multi spindle automatic lathes

1950

1950 Frank Sorenson becomes a member of the founding team of the Paper Mate Pen Company, playing a key role in launching the first commercially successful design, mass production, and marketing of ball point pens

1952

He was named professor emeritus in 1952, but continued to serve the Caltech community through his participation with volunteer, collegiate, and professional organizations.

1953

1953 Advancing his career in the ball point pen industry Frank Sorenson moves to Anja Engineering as Vice President of Manufacturing

1956

1956 Sorenson Engineering is established by Frank & Joyce Sorenson and operates for 6 months on leased floor space in Banning, California

1957

1957 Business and family moved and co-located in a residential home in Yucaipa, California with family members serving as working staff for the new business

1962

1962 Company growth and expansion requires additional space resulting in move to current location on Dunlap Boulevard, in Yucaipa, to accommodate growing business

1965

Sorensen died in his Pasadena, California home on 27 October 1965 at the age of 83.

1966

Sorenson’s contributions earned him the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award from Caltech in 1966.
