Position Summary: The Histology/IHC Technician will perform laboratory procedures and functions in accordance to established protocols which require limited independent judgement and review. The individual will provide daily operational assistance to the department supervisor/manager and provide guidance to the supporting staff.
In this role you will:
Handle specimens from accessioning to final specimen storage
Assist supervisor/manager with day-to-day administration of the histology department
Perform all routine processes of surgical specimen i.e., embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping
Ensure adherence and maintains quality control and quality assurance procedures
Review slides for overall quality of preparation i.e., staining intensity, proper cover slipping and stain artifacts to help ensure accuracy
Coordinate timely distribution of completed patient materials to pathologist
Provide training and guidance to laboratory assistant
Prepare and maintain reagents for routine H&E, special stain and IHC procedures
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to specification i.e., automated H&E staining instrument, Ventana Benchmark Ultra and Special Stain instruments, tissue processor
Maintain and complete instrument specific QC documents when applicable
Perform basic troubleshooting diagnosis and/or repairs of instrumentation and document remedial actions
Maintain all paperwork associated with the laboratory i.e., records maintenance logs and temperature logs as needed
Monitor inventory and alerts staff of low stock supplies prior to depletion
Operate and maintain a clean workstation and area
Assist with coverage of other lab operational tasks
Maintain a positive, achievement-oriented attitude and influence others to do the same
Other duties as directed by the supervisor and/or departments manage.

High School Education/ Associate Degree with some medical or science related course of study
NY State license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histological Technician required
3-5 years of experience in Histology
The ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum work efficiency
Good clerical, organization, attention to detail, time management and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude are essential
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the company
