Maintenance/Custodial/Custodian
Evening Custodian - 10 month (2:00 - 10:30 PM)
Position Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, Director of Facilities, and Business Manager, performs general cleaning and maintenance in school buildings and grounds; maintains equipment in functional condition; and provides cleaning and custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others as necessary.
Performs related duties and general maintenance work as required.
Essential Functions:
Checks and secures building at beginning and end of shift for the purpose of ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the building.
Cleans rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas of building according to school district standards.
Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors.
Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
Removes graffiti, cleans glass areas.
Replaces light bulbs.
Sets up and breaks down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms, and functional rooms.
Clears snow from entrances and walks, and spreads sand and ice melting chemicals.
Performs grounds-keeping duties, clears debris and maintains grounds.
Receives deliveries and assists in unloading trucks and storing supplies.
Delivers supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms and other areas of the building.
Empties wastebaskets; picks up and removes trash and assists in recycling program.
Additional Duties:
Performs general cleaning, and repair work, particularly during school vacations.
Assists parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment
Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools.

Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks.
Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.

At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self discipline, self confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. GENERAL: 1. The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community's image of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health. 2. The position includes other unusual aspect such as extended time, risk injury factor and due process predicaments. 3. It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance to function. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Plainwell Community Schools' Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program. 2. Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements same consistently and interprets them for staff. 3. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES: 4. Established the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff. Designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to insure staff awareness of overall program. 5. Trains and informs staff, encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local clinic policy. 6. Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation and, at season's end, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants. 7. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation. 8. Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the athletic director/principal.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: 9. Assists the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events. 10. Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees. 11. Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility. 12. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites. 13. Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method or procedural changes.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: 14. Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletes the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. 15. Gives constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct. 16. By his/her presence at all practices games and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant. 17. Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant. 18. Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies. 19. Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to athletic office within 24 hours. 20. Directs student managers, assistants and statisticians. 21. Determines discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contracts parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible. 22. Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
FINANCE AND EQUIPMENT: 23. Participates in the budgeting function with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season. Recommends equipment guidelines as to type, style, color or technical specifications. Is responsible for operating within budget appropriations. 24. Is accountable for all equipment and collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned. Arranges for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records concerning same. 25. Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing. 26. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizes who may enter, issue or requisition equipment. 27. Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times. 28. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment. 29. Secures all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty. 30. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: 31. Organizes parents, coaches, players and guests for preseason meetings. 32. Promotes the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program and promotes the sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or in any other feasible manner. 33. Responsible for the quality, effectiveness and validity of any oral or written release to local media. 34. Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans. 35. Title: Substitute School Bus Driver
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.
Essential Functions:
Safely drives a school bus on days when school is in session over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations.
Transports students, teachers and others on school field or activity trips.
Inspects assigned bus on a daily basis prior to transporting of passengers to ensure that bus is in good, clean and safe working order.
Cleans and refuels bus as needed.
Ensures that a communication device is in proper working order before each trip.
Reports all mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents, promptly.
Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g., oil change); transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
Maintains order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner among students being transported in accordance with district policies and procedures; reports any incidents involving student discipline.
Observes and tracks route timing, such as total time en-route, time between stops, loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency, as requested.
Maintains and submits records and reports as required.
Follows procedures to ensure that no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time, and that all children have departed bus at the end of all bus routes (morning, evening and during field trips or other special trips).
Inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment; reports needs to the Director.
Prepares aides and children for bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held as required.
In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures, ensures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written report as required.
Attends and participates in trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.

Job Description:
1.) Ability to build personal and professional relationships with administration, teachers, coaches, student-athletes, parents, and community members.
2.) Prepares for and coordinates practices and events, maintains and inventories equipment, encourages player development at all levels, and makes recommendations to the Athletic Director.
3.) The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, energetic, and enthusiastic about promoting education-based athletics.
4.) Accept and implement the co-curricular philosophy of South Spencer Middle School.
5.) Follows the rules and regulations of the school, the PAC conference, and the IHSAA.

* Reads recipes and/or product directions.
* Estimates food requirements.
* Operates a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, strain, and season and knead foodstuffs for cooking, serving and storing.
* Assists in the preparation of hot and/or cold foods, and properly stores food, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and spoilage.
* Inspects workstations for compliance with service standards.
