Position Overview Under supervision of the Site Medical Director, the Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive, compassionate, and thoughtful care to our patients in the New York City jail system. Job Responsibilities * Acts as First Assistant or Second Assistant to surgeon during surgical procedures i.e., holds retractors, ties off vessels and tissues, repairs incisions and lacerations, cuts and cauterizes tissues, etc., as needed and as directed for wide variety of surgical cases i.e., orthopedic, general surgery, vascular, OB/GYN, etc. Performs complex surgical techniques as needed and as directed by physician. * All other specific tasks delegated by supervising physician in accordance to the incumbent's knowledge and experience developed under the supervising physician * Documents all procedures and/or services to patients on face sheets and processes face sheets in accordance with established procedures to ensure accurate billing to patient accounts * Shares on-call responsibilities with the rest of the team as directed by team leader * Performs all activities in accordance with established policies and protocols i.e., all orders supervised and countersigned by physician, etc. Requirements * Must hold certification/licensure as a CSA, LSA, RNFA, PA-C or NP. * Previous surgical experience as a First Assistant. * Ability to build and maintain business relationships and retain and grow the business. * Must possess strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and team mentality. * Reliable transportation and willingness to work at multiple locations as needed. * Ability to communicate and work effectively with team members, hospital staff and physicians. * Ability to work flexible hours as scheduled, including weekends and holidays, and to be on-call as scheduled.     Our 30-bed MSICU cares for medical and surgical patients ranging from newborn to early adult. The patient population is diverse with a variety of medical and surgical needs. Our newborn population primarily includes patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia or those needing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) soon after birth. The children and early adults have a variety of diagnoses, including but not limited to acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple trauma, septic shock, congenital malformations, and liver, lung, and kidney transplantation. We are seeking a qualified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to become an integral part of a team that believes in the value of personalized care and the power of multidisciplinary teams to provide the very best care possible to our patients and their families. Key Responsibilities * Provide care to infants, children, and adults with critical illness. * Collaborate with supervising physicians to conduct patient assessments, medical histories, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems. * Manage therapeutic regimens for patients with acute and chronic disease according to approved guidelines. * Participate in intensive care unit medical rounds, including presenting clinical information and updates on patient progress and management. * Assist with establishing treatment plans and participate in all teaching activities conducted by the MSICU attending staff. * Participate in ongoing research in the MSICU and offer expertise as a consultant and educator to other staff.
