The program begins March 23, 2026. Residency members will work full time and participate in a variety of activities to support the transition including lectures, simulated scenarios and hands on skills training. This residency program is one-year long with classes occurring throughout the year. Nurses will be assigned a preceptor for the first 14 weeks and will transition to independent practice over the course of the program. The majority of class time will be during the first 14 week orientation.
Candidates are expected to complete the full 14 week orientation program in full with their cohort. Residency participants must be available to work 36-40 hours per week, and be available to work ANY SHIFT during their training. Schedules will include every other weekend rotation. Upon completion, New Graduate nurses will be scheduled to work 36 hour Night shifts with every other weekend rotation. Our robust benefits are available to residency members on the first day of work.
Base Pay is $38.20
Off Shift Differentials: Weeknights $8/hour Weekend Nights $15/hour
Staff Nurse Responsibilities include:
1. Medication Administration
a. Demonstrates knowledge of and follows SSH policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
b. Completes medication reconciliation process following SSH policy and procedure.
c. Demonstrates proper procedure for the documentation of narcotic withdrawal, administration, verifies count, wastes per policy and resolves narcotic discrepancy.
2. Plan of care/Documentation/Patient Family Centered Care/Patient Experience Develops, discusses, and communicates a prioritized problem list/plan of care for each patient.
a. Develop, evaluate and update individualized plan of care for patient and documents outcomes.
b. Initiating admission assessment within 8 hours of admissions, identifies and documents patient/family/significant other teaching needs upon admission and throughout hospitalization.
c. Continues assessment/reassessment and identifies care needs within established nursing practice.
d. Documents all patient care following the department of nursing policy, unit based standards, disease processes (CHF, PNA vaccines) and nurse sensitive indicators (falls, skin, CAUTI)
e. Assess/reassesses and documents patient's level of comfort utilizing the appropriate pain scale and the patient's response to each intervention both pharmacological and non-pharmacological per South Shore Hospital policy.
f. Works on behalf of patient /family. Seeks help to represent patient/family when they are unable to represent themselves.
g. Raises ethical questions and concerns with clinical team. Seeks available resources to help formulate and understand ethical decisions.
h. Actively communicates plan of day via white board updating every shift.
i. Facilitates discharge/transfer by goal of 12:00pm, communicates barriers utilizing chain of command.
3. Safety/Quality - Foster's a "Culture of Safety" through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
a. Verifies patient identification with two identifiers prior to the start of any invasive procedure, including "time out", administration of care, medications, labeled specimen's an documents confirming the correct patient, procedure, site, equipment and consent.
b. Complies with the current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper handwashing. Adheres to universal precautions, makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times and appropriately disposes of hazardous materials. Maintains awareness of MSDS sheets and how to access.
c. Ensures environment meets regulatory requirements at all times.
d. Understands and is able to demonstrate individual roles and responsibilities in the event of hospital codes/emergency preparedness.

Patients admitted and randomized home as part of the trial will need to have a caregiver present.
Additional support will be able to be provided by home health aides and mental health specialists.

Job Description
1. Schedule
Completes weekly schedule and makes scheduled home visits per assignment. Schedules and prioritizes nursing visits according to client acuity and in accordance with the organization's emergency preparedness plan
2. Assessment/Documentation Admission Visit
For each admission to caseload, develops an individualized and holistic plan of care for the patient in collaboration with the patient/family/caregiver. Performs admission physical and psycho social assessment to determine appropriate plan of care.
3. Reassessment/Visit Documentation
For each visit, demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement the plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures necessary for the skilled care of the patient, as evidenced by chart review and observation. Updates the plan of care on an ongoing basis as goals are met and problems are identified.
4. Discharge/Documentation Discharge
For each discharge, documentation demonstrates improvement in outcomes or applicable variances are identified. Patients are appropriately prepared for discharge and all disciplines involved in the care of the patient are in agreement with plan.
5. Medication
Demonstrates knowledge of department policies and procedures for administering and documenting medications.Medication reconciliation is completed every visit and medication profile is reviewed and updated with changes as appropriate. DRR is run with each additional medication. Medication management is taught to each patient/family member each visit , including side effects.
6. Case Management
The case manager demonstrates responsibility and accountability for coordinating the plan of care for each patient on caseload. The patient /family is involved and participates in the plan of care. Communicates with all disciplines to insure quality of care.
7. Safety Awareness
Fosters a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment. Complies with current hand hygiene and infection control guidelines.

Day (United States of America) The wound center Nurse Practitioner, Podiatry Services is defined as a person who is a graduate of a school approved by the AMA Board of Approval and Certification of Nurse Practitioner Program, who may provide podiatry/wound management related medical services appropriate to his/her training, experience and skills, under the supervision of a registered physician and the Director of the APP program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job's purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions that the person in the job is held accountable for. Following are the essential functions of the job.
1 - The NP practices in collaboration with a supervising physician.
a - A physician reviews all historical and physical data according to medical staff by-laws and regulations.
b - The NP will work as a member of the general surgical "team", which consists of Attending Physicians, BW surgical residents, BW Surgical interns and PAs.
2 - In any emergency situation, a NP may render emergency medical service necessary to avoid disability or death of an injured person until a doctor arrives.
3 - The NP will participate in the hospital's quality improvement and risk management programs.
4 - The NP will complete medical records in a timely manner according to the medical staff by laws and rules and regulations.
5 - The responsibilities of the wound NP, Podiatry Services will include but not be limited to the following:
a - Prepare admission orders and perform detailed histories and physicals on podiatry surgery patients
b - Assist in the overall preparation of the patient for surgery. Perform daily patient rounds and follow up on all patients and consults including physical exams, diagnostic and therapeutic intervention and order routine labs, diagnostic tests and consults after conferring with the MD
c - Participate as assigned in surgical operating procedures.
d- Provide initial interpretation of EKG and CXR and initiate definitive treatment.
e - For inclusion in patient medical records, write pre and post op orders, brief op notes, procedure notes, progress notes, transfer and discharge orders, write prescriptions. Dictate discharge summaries.
f - Provide patient education and participate in the education of medical and surgical resident's, PA's, nurses and students.
g- Perform BLS and ACLS measures as needed.
h - In the absence of the physician respond to pages from the nursing staff and any other regarding patient care.
6 - An NP may not obtain surgical consents, autopsy permission or organ donation permission.
7 - RECORD KEEPING AND WRITTEN ORDERS
b - APPs may write and sign progress notes.
c - APPs may write and sign discharge summaries, as well as transfer summaries.
d - APPs may fill out laboratory / x-ray requisitions.
e - Rules governing house officer order-writing preference shall apply to the PA/NP in the same manner as their supervising physician.
8 - RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEDICATION ORDERING
a - Written Orders: The NP may write orders according to delineated approved by the Medical Executive Committee and the board of Trustees in accordance with the PA prescription regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and may renew or rewrite orders previously approved by the supervision physician.
b - Verbal Orders: Verbal orders may be communicated from the supervising physician to the NP, who should promptly write such orders in the patient chart (on physician order sheets). The NP shall indicate the order is being written per the verbal order of the supervising physician. In the emergency, the NP may give verbal orders.
c - The nurse is responsible for the administration to the patient.
9 - Safety
a - All required safety education programs have been attended.
b - Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions
c - Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
d - Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.
e - Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
