STAR Program Year-Round volunteers assist participants with disabilities in a variety of on-going programs including Arts, Sports, Trips, Dances and Special Events. We operate four full-service recreation centers, golf courses, outdoor pools and restaurants, two ice centers and miniature golf courses, a botanical garden event center, a BMX track, a sports dome, batting cages, an entertainment center, a hotel and a nature center. In addition, we maintain nearly 3,800 acres of developed and open space land, including 119 multi-purpose athletic fields, more than 100 parks, nearly 80 miles of trails, 60 playgrounds, 56 tennis courts, and the 880-acre South Platte Park.

South Platte Park volunteers participate at least once per month in the specialty areas they have been trained for in helping manage the park and programs. Specialty areas may include: stewardship of resources, native garden maintenance, leading field trip groups, hosting the Nature Center desk, conducting wildlife surveys, and more! Selection of these areas may depend on volunteer interest, schedule availability, and the ability to learn the duties.     Arts & Enrichment Volunteer Did you know volunteering is a great way to explore interests, meet new people and to do something good for your community at the same time? If you answered YES, this is the opportunity for you! The Arts and Enrichment Volunteers may assist staff with classes and other programs as well as at events such as indoor and outdoor concerts, craft fairs, theater productions, dance recitals, as well as various holiday events. This person may monitor classes or programs, clean studio equipment and facilities, sets up the concessions table, sells the concessions, collects tickets at the door, facilitates art projects, provides positive customer service and is generally available to answer any questions or get maintenance help if needed. Typically 10-20 hours per week: evening, weekend, and/or holiday hours may be required. Please note weekly hours will vary depending on the season. The ideal candidate will be creative, organized and highly motivated while assisting classes and programs. Our Ideal Candidate * Must be at least Fifteen (15) years of age * Previous experience with children and larger groups is helpful. Child care experience such as babysitting or a group setting with supervision of children is valuable, for example: previous Scout troupe leadership, church group activities, help in nursery settings, assisting with younger siblings etc. * Baby sitting and/or safety training such as first aid or CPR is helpful. * A teaching or leadership position training program is desired. * An interest in art and/or performing arts is preferred. * Must have a desire to work with school age children, preschoolers and families. * Must be dependable and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions. * Must have the ability to learn a craft or art project quickly and carefully follow safety instructions. * Has the ability to follow workplace safety procedures introduced by staff. * Must be able to lift 25lbs. unassisted * Ability to be self-directed and provide excellent customer service to all participants.
